seatbelts or life jackets?

we wear seatbelts out of habit. what about life jackets?

Each year, about 700 people nationwide die in boating-related accidents.

• Nearly 70 percent are caused by drowning, and eight of 10 victims were not wearing a life jacket.

• Also, eight of 10 victims were using boats less than 20 feet in length.

Doug.. As a medic, I’m a full time seatbelt and life jacket advocate. Nothing is more pathetic than arriving on an accident scene and realizing the victims didn’t even try to prevent their injuries… or worse, their death.
There is no one within earshot of me that doesn’t hear me tell them to “buckle up” or “put a life jacket on”. Most who know me finish the sentence with me.
Just because someone is an expert driver or swimmer doesn’t mean they’re safe from injury or death.

I’m supposed to get excited about .0000002 percent of the population?  This idiocy of trying to ‘save even one life’ is burdening us with more restrictive laws every day. Ironically many of the people that are advocating ‘saving every life’ are also concerned about population growth.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

Eh, he’s not advocating any laws except the laws of physics and biology, doc.  You fall in the water, you get too tired to swim, you drown.  Might be smart to put something on to keep your mouth and nose out of the drink.

I wonder what % of boating deaths are related to alcohol.  My first guess would be at least 75%.

Isn’t the answer obvious?  We have to ban all boats < 21’.  If it saves just one life it would be worth it, know?
