SAY ANTHING BLOG

All my life I have lived with the creed that understanding and education would bridge the gap between the races. Apparently, I was/am wrong. After my posting of Lift Every Voice and Sing, Graves smugly stated there is only one National Anthem. I do not feel anything to the contrary. Several months ago I posted my feelings on Affirmative Action and you blokes took me to task for that. Maybe you conservatives really are the closed minded people many Americans think you are. People like Neiman and Chief RZ give me hope for the future, though. You cannot engage in any debate with a thin skin. When you come to the table, you better be wearing your full armor or stay home.

Comments

There is only one race - the human race!

There is only one skin color - Flesh! Different tones, shades and hues to be sure, but we are all, one skin color.

Dirrerent cultural understandings? You bet! I get around my black grandson or other black men and quickly I am lost as to their language and references.

I don’t like bad black people or bad white people!

Everyone should have the same chance to succeed or fall on their butts. If we fall on our butts, rather than our first instincts being the national tit, we need to suck it up and go after the brass ring again.

I have a late half-brother and a living half-sister that are Americam Indian. Besides my grandson there are too many blacks in my family to count. Got a few Hispanics and Asians too. My late parents were Christian ministers that taught us all from babies not to judge other people, we lived for a time where my middle brother and I were the only two white kinds in our school in Richmond, California.

My point to all this, I never had any choice, I was raised to believe the way I do; but I suspect it was and is a lot harder for those raised differently and I don’t judge or hate them either. That includes the late Senator Helms, he had his good and bad points and I’m leaving the sorting out to the Lord.

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

Neiman on July 4, 2008 at 03:26 pm

Thank you, watashiwa.  You are what I call an adult who can think thru ideas and decide with an open mind the best points.  Neiman has just added a few pieces of information that should add credibility to many points he has made.  This is why I come here--for The Truth.  There are a few who are unable to think like adults, but I have decided to ignore them, because there are too many others like watashiwa who I have come to respect and see reciprocation.

Happy 4th of July!

Watashiwa:

You cannot engage in any debate with a thin skin.

I think everyone at SAB already understands and agrees with the truth of your statement. Indeed, we have all been called every name in the book and applied the same vulgarities to others.

However, there is a vast difference between calling someone a name and accusing them of criminal behavior - particularly a crime as ugly as child pornography.

Had you called me a xenophobe, a racist, an asshole or any other label you might have chosen, you would have been on safe - albeit incorrect - ground.

But as so many others have already pointed out, what you did was wrong. And it has nothing to do with thin or thick skin.

I will say no more on this subject.

Is this a “smug statement”?

We only have one national anthem,”

-Barack Obama to the Rocky Mountain News Thursday.

Perhaps a little context is in order: Just two days before your post, a singer substituted “Lift Evry Voice and Sing” when she was supposed to sing the National Anthem.  She seemed very smug about the reason she made, what she called “a switcheroonie”.

Perhaps the post you thought “would enlighten” was perceived as a veiled apologia for Ms. Switcheroonie?

Actually I am not in the habit of quoting rodents, but this is quite true.  I’ve visited a few fora which maintained ideological purity and I have to say, they seemed pretty stagnant.

In one sense I get the impression that the Leftists only come here and say outrageous bullshit because it’s all an effort to make Conservative’s heads explode.

Then again, it may well be that they are really like Mr. Garrison’s Mr. Slave and are really here to get verbally abused because they have been so very very badddd.

You can’t have any sort of debate when one side can only present personal attacks.  I guess you don’t know what “debate” means, either.

robert108 on July 4, 2008 at 07:20 pm

Uncle Robert. No I don’t lie. Accept the compliment. Don’t be a sourpuss. You may not get another compliment for a long time.
As far as the personal attacks go, you are overstating the issue. Stop calling people names. Maybe then people will reciprocate.
Try this for a change. Instead of calling people you debate with liers say: IMO you are mistaken. Or you are mistaken because.....
Now uncle Robert have a good night.

ellinas on July 4, 2008 at 09:00 pm

Stop calling people names. Maybe then people will reciprocate.

Bullshit!  You started with namecalling and personal attack, and that makes you a hypocrite.  Why don’t you set the example of what you say you want?  You amplified Ken’s multiple lying personal attacks on me, and so any bullshit from you about anything I say is nonsense.  Clean up your own act.
When you lie; I expose it, and when you continue to lie to defend your previous lies, that makes you a liar.  Stop lying, and I will have no reason to call you a liar.

Hope and change, in a free world, are the private possessions of motivated individuals.

robert108 on July 4, 2008 at 09:10 pm

BTW, I don’t call everyone who disagrees with me a liar.  That’s simply another lie from you.  I first start with exposing the false information they have given; if they persist in their ignorance, and continue to pile one falsehood on top of another, then I call them what they are. The first false statment could be ignorance, but succeeding ones, in the face of facts and logic to the contrary, show the intent to deceive.
In your case, you have been lying for a very long time, so I rarely waste time going over any substantive arguments again and again.  You willfully ignore the truth.  I don’t believe your “compliment”, either.  It’s just more deceit from you.
You lost all credibility with me a long time ago, and have done nothing to re-establish it.  In fact, you continue in your same dishonesty in comment after comment.

Hope and change, in a free world, are the private possessions of motivated individuals.

w[h]atashi[t]wa[d] whines:

After my posting of Lift Every Voice and Sing, Graves smugly stated there is only one National Anthem. I do not feel anything to the contrary.

What say we review and add the missing context.

Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing is in the news, and thus in the public eye, because of this:

‘Black national anthem’ stirs controversy for city

DENVER - Mayor John Hickenlooper’s annual State of the City address may get more attention for what wasn’t included than what was.

At the start of the event Tuesday morning, City Council President Michael Hancock introduced singer Rene Marie to perform the national anthem.

Instead, she performed the song “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing,” which is also known as the “black national anthem.”

When she finished, the audience responded with mild applause. The national anthem was never performed.

...

“When I decided to sing my version, what was going on in my head was: ‘I want to express how I feel about living in the United States, as a black woman, as a black person,’” said Marie.

...

City Councilman Charlie Brown took to talk radio Tuesday afternoon to criticize the absence of the national anthem at the State of the City proceedings.

“There is no substitute for the national anthem, period,” Brown said. “And that’s what really bothered me. You know when we fly the flag, the American flag, it’s always the highest flag, as it should be. And that didn’t come across today, that didn’t happen today.”

Which was covered by pparets in his Denver Gets New National Anthem post (which I attempted to link to, but which link failed due to an issue with Rob’s search engine).

She was there to sing the National Anthem.  I don’t care what she chose to sing instead of the National Anthem.  Nor do I care about the history of the piece she chose to sing in place of the National Anthem.

I care very much that she deemed that substitution appropriate, and that others defend that substitution.

One Nation.

One People (those who self identify as ”Americanswink.

One Constitution.

One National Anthem.

The fact that I view and interpret things differently that the way you do does not mean I am lying. I am not out to deceive you or anyone else. That is what and how I see things.
I offered an olive branch. You did not accept it. Fine by me. The loss is yours. As I pointed out earlier: “. I am amazed as to how such a good and inteligent debater can be so wrong about so many things.”
Well I was neither wrong nor mistaken judging from your answer. Why are you so paranoid?

I’m not; you lie again.  Your “olive branch” contained no apologies for your many lying personal attacks on me, and so was pure bullshit.  You have no value to me whatsoever, so I am experiencing no “loss” here.  In fact, I would be quite happy if you never tried to address me again.  That would be a gain for me.

robert108 on July 5, 2008 at 11:16 am

Uncle Robert. I interpreted your innability to accept an olive branch as paranoia. And what did you do? You said I am lying again, as though I have an ulterior motive.

As far as not addressing you again, that is wishfull thinking in your part. I will not allow you to go unchallenged. Far too many times you are mistaken. Far too many times you twist and stretch the truth to suit your point of view. Monogamy comes to mind as it is the most recent example.

ellinas on July 5, 2008 at 10:35 am

I interpreted your innability to accept an olive branch as paranoia.

One: you are supremely unqualified to “interpret” for me; Two: If you had done the right thing, and had apologized for your many lying personal attacks on me, it would have been a real “olive branch”.  Since you didn’t; I recognized your lie for what it was.

I will not allow you to go unchallenged.

Another lie from you; it is I who constantly refutes your lies, ignorant and misleading statements.

You said I am lying again, as though I have an ulterior motive.

Of course you do.

Monogamy comes to mind as it is the most recent example.

Absolutely.  You made two glaring mistakes and I busted you for them.  Since then, you have compounded your original ignorance with numerous lies and personal attacks.

Now notice how you twist things.
What I said was: “Uncle Robert. I interpreted your innability to accept an olive branch as paranoia.”

It is obvious that no attempt was made by me to interpret anything for you.

Did you lie or what?

ellinas on July 5, 2008 at 11:43 am

Did you lie or what?

No. You used the verb “interpreted”, and now you lie to cover your ignorant mistake.  I have no “inability” to accept a sincere apology from you for your many lies and personal attacks; you have yet to do that.  Your so-called “olive branch” was a lie; you offered only a meaningless, empty gesture.
Here’s how it works: repentance, atonement, forgiveness.
You have yet to repent your lying and personal attacking ways.
You continue to lie about my being your “uncle”.  Your intent is to lie and smear, and your every comment proves that.
