Saudis faulted for funding terror

Saudi Arabia remains the world’s leading source of money for Al Qaeda and other extremist networks and has failed to take key steps requested by U.S. officials to stem the flow, the Bush administration’s top financial counter-terrorism official said Tuesday.

Stuart A. Levey, a Treasury undersecretary, told a Senate committee that the Saudi government had not taken important steps to go after those who finance terrorist organizations or to prevent wealthy donors from bankrolling extremism through charitable contributions, sometimes unwittingly.

“Saudi Arabia today remains the location where more money is going to terrorism, to Sunni terror groups and to the Taliban than any other place in the world,” Levey said under questioning.

Great.  That oil money we are sending Saudi Arabia is getting into the hands of terrorists! Too bad you liberals won’t let us develop our domestic oil sources.

Asshats.

Did you miss it when pp, Randy Grapes, and r108 were taking turns stepping up to deny this?

Yep, but they aren’t just writing the checks.  They’ve also consistently been the ones pulling the trigger:

PP,

You really don’t understand the politics of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is an oligarchy where the ruling House of Saud is extremely wealthy and everybody else is extremely poor.  To keep the people from rebelling they send them to Wahabi madrases which teach the extremist ideology that you so vehemently oppose.  It was no coincidence that the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia.  It is the consequence of their policies.

Saudi Arabia is the largest funder of Islamic extremism in the world.

Lestat:  Spare me you uninformed lecture about what I understand or don’t understand about SA..

Like all states, Saudi Arabia acts in their own interests.  When it serves their national interests, the Saudis support us.  When it doesn’t, they don’t.

Try THE PRINCE by Machiavelli.  It may help YOU understand the real world.

Saudi Arabia is not an oligarchy or a monarchy, its a plutocracy.

Plutocracy is rule by the wealthy, or power provided by wealth. In a plutocracy, the degree of economic inequality is high while the level of social mobility is low.

I can agree with that.

It may help YOU understand the real world.

I do live in the real world.  You are the one denying Saudi Arabia supports terrorism.

Lestat on September 7, 2008 at 01:28 pm

It’s a “Kingdom”, which means it’s a monarchy.  The term “plutocracy” is a leftie smear against the free enterprise system, which has the highest degree of both economic and social mobility of any economic system.

Saudi Arabia is a plutocracy. Replete with high walls and fenced communities. No upward mobility in Saudi Arabia. No girls drive there. Rape gets girls thrown in jail or re-raped by the police, as punishment for being born a woman in such a SHITHOLE.

You are just a red-faced terror apologist. You know the Saudis hate free enterprise, democracy, and America and you insist on apologizing for them.

You are simply unreceptive to new information. Go back to 1955 and recapture the part of your brain that processes new, incoming information. Asshat.

Robert,

Saudi Arabia is not a free enterprise system.  The House of Saud owns all the resources and their is no opportunity for anybody else to buy them.

Why do you apologize for a country where 18 men flew a plane into the World Trade Center?

Lestat on September 7, 2008 at 02:17 pm

You are just a red-faced terror apologist.

I’m not “apologizing” for anything; I’m just smacking you with the truth.  The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a monarchy.  Even the name of the country is named for the royal family.  Duh.

Saudi Arabia is not a free enterprise system.

I was the one who accurately described it as a monarchy, remember?  Just keep making things up, though.

Why do you apologize for a country where 18 men flew a plane into the World Trade Center?

It was Al Qaeda, which isn’t a country, and calling a monarchy a “monarchy” isn’t an “apology”; it’s just the simple truth.
