Saturday in L.A.

I flew to L.A. on Friday for an event. On Saturday, I saw a Dodgers vs. Angels ‘Freeway Series’ game (Angels 3, Dodgers 0). It was sunny!

I also went to the Getty Center (as in the oil guy). They have all these modern buildings up on top of a hill with a killer view and tons of art. Its like a combination of one of James Bond’s evil enemy’s hilltop compound and the Louvre. Sweet!

...and then I flew back this morning.

Have you bought some carbon credits?

Um, Sparkie, if you can seriously compare Getty’s architecture with that of the Louvre, you have even more serious problem with perception than even I would have guessed.  Getty’s one of the best in the States in terms of art museums, and the view’s a killer.  But my goodness, the architect who designed that should have been fired for malpractice!

I like the architecture. I mentioned the Louvre only for the collection of art. The architecture reference is James Bond’s enemy hideout.

I have seen most major art museums in N. America and Europe and the Getty has some nice stuff. I like Montreal’s Musee des Beau Artes and the Peggy Guggenheim collection in Venice the best. Philly has a kick ass art museum and the most Rodin’s outside Paris. I like Rodin a lot.

I take it you aren’t one for modern architecture? Have you seen the Guggenheim in Bilbao? I think the Getty architecture is awesome myself.

I took my son on a west coast baseball trip from San Diego to Seattle (hit the Q in SD, Dodger, Pac-bell, and Safeco but missed the Angels and A’s) when he was 6.  The Q sucked, Pac-bell and Safeco were absolutely awesome but too modern, but Dodger stadium was something to see.  Just so much history there.  I was in SD this weekend and wanted to go to Petco but the Pads were out of town.

Nothing better than a Saturday day game with a big bag of Hoody’s that cover you with peanut skins and sitting with the kids watching a baseball game.  I got to see the Red Sox the weekend before last against the Diamondbacks and Randy Johnson pitch against Dice-K.  Got to see Beckett pitch in another game.  Took my boys and my dad and grabbed some brats from a street hot dog stand and plenty of peanuts and enjoyed the hell out of it.

Glad you got to watch some baseball.  I have been to Coors, Q, Pac-bell/SBC/ATT, Safeco, Dodger, and Chase in PHX.  If you are ever in PHX, I’ll buy you a beer and we can compare some stadiom architecture.  We have a very nice airplane hanger.

yea. my photo work. i only brought my ‘plinker’ camera to LA - a canon s70. best damn small digital i’ve bumped into. check out this larger, uncropped version of the same photo. there is some distortion on the ends, but its three originals. taken from the nosebleed section… that game was sold out. when i went to madrid, i took a 12 shot merge of the presidential palace. i would up a file, but i printed it the old fashioned way back in ‘00.

i saw a few red sox games early last year. they are expensive. i used to go to a bunch of expos games, montreal was close, but ultimately I prefer hockey. my little sister has been in LA for a while and is moving soon so the game was her going away present.
