Russia observes truce by facilitating looting and destruction of civilian homes and businesses.

According to WaPo. And NYT clarifies the failure of this truce from its 02:00 start. And Russian Officers herald the phoenix like rise of Mother Russia. And then, there is this rather misleading headline a BBC,” Russians begin Georgia handover”. Yet, in reading the article we see that no such thing is happening.

And then we have an AParticle at Fox, detailing Russian moves into Zugdidi, and the port city of Poti.

Wow, this truce certainly has all the appearance of an invasion.

Update; This just came up at Xinhua,"France to table UN resolution to end conflict in Georgia". Besure to check out all the related pieces below this article. Our brothers from Cathay are covering this better than the Western press.

Sorry, for some reason the link to Xinhua didn’t post in the update.

Meanwhile, McCain says we have to do something about Russia and Obama says we have to do something about McCain.

Geeze, and we thought the age of soviet communist aggression was over.

Shades of Hungary and Czechoslovakia.  The Russians haven’t changed a bit.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

Shades of Hungary and Czechoslovakia.  The Russians haven’t changed a bit.

And neither have the liberal Democrats who excuse the Russians behavior.  For two generations, the people of eastern Europe and the Baltic states were enslaved behind the Iron Curtain, while liberal Democrats did nothing but bemoan the “insensitivity” and lack of “nuance” of those who found Russian brutality intolerable.

I thought the Iron Curtain went down in 1991? No, we insured its zombie corpse we reanimate by continuing our NATO stumping. Its called BLOWBACK.

Yes, Sparkless, the “only” reason Mother Russia EVER invaded anyone else was because of threats from its neighbors.  Uh-huh.  Certainly the presence of Austria-Hungary explains why they pushed to the Pacific, fought the Tartars, and so on.

Please.  Sometimes countries just get too big for their britches.  This is one of them.

Did you name your scarecrow after me? If it helps you take out aggression I guess. That straw feller sure is done for.

Let’s quote for those that apparently cannot remember their own (voluminous) words:

I thought the Iron Curtain went down in 1991? No, we insured its zombie corpse we reanimate by continuing our NATO stumping. Its called BLOWBACK.

In other words, you’re arguing that this is the natural result of encroachment of Russia’s neighbors and NATO, and hence I responded with the historical absurdity of such an argument.  Russia is a historically expansionist empire, and would have been had NATO and the Hapsburgs never existed.

Neither have we, as I pointed out. Mother Russia quoteunquote wouldn’t be able to rally support with this kind of garbage tactics if there was no NATO still looming. Its a two way street, bro. Hence, my reference to the manner in which NATO is able to reanimate the zombie of the corpse we have slewn. We have explicitly said that RUssia can NEVER be in NATO. And you expect them to just be fine with it. Its exclusionary, balance of power tactics and Russia is playing too.

Sparkless, please.  If NATO is the problem, why does Russia invade Georgia when NATO rejects Georgia from membership?  Reality is that the covetous are not made covetous by those who say no.  They are covetous because they are covetous.

Bike Bubba on August 14, 2008 at 02:38 pm

why does Russia invade Georgia when NATO rejects Georgia from membership?

Because Georgia gave them an excuse by putting down dissidents in an effort to pretend they have control over their country so that they can join NATO. Also, Russians were already on the ground when it happened. Had been. The ‘invasion’ was long ago, bro.

They were NOT in the main part of Georgia at the time, Sparkless.  They are now, and are moving further into the country every hour.

Misstep on Georgia’s part or not, this is an invasion.  It fits the pattern of hundreds of invasions of sovereign countries by Russia in the past few hundred years.  Deal with reality for once, would ya?

Thanks for clarifying all that history for me. It’s so SIMPLE!
