Russia, France overtake US as top arms sellers

From Breitbart:

The United States ceded to Russia and France last year its role of the top arms supplier to the developing world as it failed to take full advantage of emerging markets and opportunities created by booming oil prices, according to a new congressional study.

Read the whole thing.

Now, here’s a trade imbalance we should worry about!

I’m not sure what your point is Robert.  We refuse to sell to Hugo, he goes to Russia.  We boycott Iran, it goes to France and Russia.

Hey, at least there will be lots of action on the freak show circuits in Russia and France.

gregdn: There’s that part about a trade imbalance…

If we want to do better in int’l arms sales we need to stop using weapons exports as a political ‘club’ with which to beat people over the head.
Buying weapons systems means having uninterrupted access to spare parts and training.  If I were thinking of buying say, F16’s from the U.S. I’d have to ask, “But what if a leftist candidate wins our next election?  What if I support Venezuela’s bid for the Security Council? Will the U.S. cut off the flow of parts?” The Russians and French have no similar compunctions, and laugh all the way to the bank as a result.

Just another flaming bag of shite on the doorstep of the Dems…

I wonder how much of that is small arms sales?
With the Left constantly suing gun manufacturers and in some cases, suceeding in putting them out of business, who in America is left (no pun intended) to sell small arms? Colt? Winchester? Smith and Wesson? How many manufacturers of classic American firearms still have their doors open?

From footage of the Afghanistan war I saw, special forces troops were using AK’s. That’s a pretty big vote of confidence in a foreign made gun. I know if I was a violent killing type, I’d want an AK too. The last thing I would want is my ultra hi-tech gun filling up with sand and dust and seizing up. Give me old-school and reliable any day. An AK is so simple that children can (and do) operate and maintain them. That’s progress.

Also, the US firms cannot compete with Russian, and many of the European, firms on cost. Quantity has a quality all of its own. ($25,000 for a GPS guidance kit for a bomb? I could produce them for $1,000 each.)

And the `war on terrorism’ aint making any friends, so expect this trend to continue.

P.S. The funniest thing I have heard was the `coalition of the willing’ in which the majority of the population of every participating country was against the war.

AV: Logic is only as good as your presuppositions… Sometimes “special forces” use AK 47s, not because of any inherent superiority, but because the AK’s are ubiquitous...giving them plausible deniability in some ops and a source of resupply in others… when you let your opponents hump in your ammo for you…
