Republicans Threaten To Disenfranchise Four or Five States

If you don’t behave the way the Republican party bosses want you to you will face Republican punishment and lose your seats at the Republican National convention.

Hmm....Does this sound strangely familiar. I seem to remember reading a similar post having to do with the Democrats here.

Now, who’s taking away the “right to choose” the next presidential candidate?

So much for that “sacred right” the poster was writing about.  So where’s that bridge you wanted to sell? Oh also, this must be that “hardball ‘Republican’ party politics you were writing about.

by refusing to seat at least half their delegates

See! The Republicans are only half the sons of bitches the Dems are! The Dems were refusing to seat them all! What was that about half a loaf being better than none?

A troll is someone who only wants to stir up trouble, not have an honest debate.  Some signs that a poster is a troll:
* Dodges questions from other posters * Refuses to give sources
* When one of its arguments is shown to be false, either ignores the proof or moves the goalposts.  Heh. (From the LGF faq)

Didn’t the Democrats already do this very same thing to some of their party’s primaries?

And you’re right Puzzlefeet! (My that sounds strange!) It is hardball politics. And had this story come out three days ago, when the Dem story did, I would have condemned both equally! (Well, the Dems twice as much! I mean, there is proportionality!)
So, you can sit there smugly content that you caught me in an inconsistency, because I don’t read news articles that haven’t been written yet!

BTW, ‘feet: Does the fact that the Republicans do it too, make it right?

No.  The political parties however, both Ds and Rs get to decide how their presidential candidates will be selected.

And quite frankly, I applaud both political parties for trying to control the states from trying to move up the primaries earlier and earlier.  We don’t need to have primaries almost a year out from the elections.

I have no problem with the parties upholding their rules when state political clearly violate the rules.  So cheers to both parties!

...who disenfranchise their people. Nice!
Must be easy to be a liberal if you never have to stand on principle!

More Puzzled-than-ever: Do you think that the average man or woman on the street follows the “inside baseball” of machine party politics, or do you think that they just show up at the polls on election day and expect their vote to count?

The parties expect their respective state parties to follow the rules that they themselves voted on. The consequences are spelled out in the party rules.

And no I don’t think the average person follows internal party politics.

Citizens are entitled to vote for the president and other elected officials during the regularly scheduled elections.  Parties decide who the candidates are through their respective systems which are set up on a state by state basis.

So let’s not confuse an election for president and the selection of the candidates.  It is not a free for all on the part of the states.  Parties decide how their primaries will be done, by caucus or primary vote etc…

Got to agree with puzz. Presidential campaigns should be no longer than 120 days. Senate and House, 90. Any candidate that violates that timeline to be banned from running for office in America, at any level, permanently.

Make ‘em as long as you want, but I’ll ask you the same question:

Do you think that the average man or woman on the street follows the “inside baseball” of machine party politics, or do you think that they just show up at the polls on election day and expect their vote to count?

Should their votes not count because some policy wonks are playing politics?

Too late for you, Puzz, you’re already confused!
Do you honestly think that calling a primary election a “selection” makes it not an election? Is voter fraud okay if it’s only a “selection” and not an election?
And can I get some of what you’re smoking?

So let’s not confuse an election for president and the selection of the candidates

For the terminally puzzled, let’s review:
In order to elect a president, the parties first elect candidates. (Elect is another word for “choose"--you’ve heard of “choice”, haven’t you Puzz?)
If you do not allow the people to choose who their candidate is in the primary, then their choice might not advance to the general election. This would deny them their choice. Are you anti-choice Puzz? (I’ve heard that’s BAD!)

What??!!??? Many will be denied their choice, like Tancredo, Kucinich, Biden, Hunter etc…
The choice has to get through the party convention before the election and has to be formally nominated by their respective parties.

What did I say that was wrong here Proof?  Is that not the process used by both parties?  What’s your beef?

Puzzlefeet on August 29, 2007 at 07:29 pm

What’s your beef?

Citizens are entitled to vote for the president and other elected officials during the regularly scheduled elections.

(which include primaries) But whether or not your vote counts is determined by the likes of Hillary Diane Rodham Milhous Clinton and her ilk!
(Oh, and don’t say “beef”! It upsets Dave! )

You wish to take away the freedom of people to advertise themselves?

Good luck with that one.

Your quite right. Lawyers will continue to fuck up our country till people have had enough and drag their asses into the streets.
