Rep. William Jefferson voted out of office in Louisiana.

This is good news for the Republicans. It will be interesting to see how the Liberal press spins this one. I guess the folks in Louisiana got tired of Jefferson’s antics and illegal activity.

AP— Political newcomer Anh “Joseph” Cao, a Republican, has beaten nine-term incumbent William Jefferson, a Democrat, in the 2nd Congressional District, dealing what may be a final blow to the congressman’s political career of nearly three decades.

With 100 percent of the district’s 492 precincts reporting, Cao, a Venetian Isles attorney who has enjoyed strong backing from local and national GOP organizations, took 50 percent, compared to 47 percent for Jefferson. Green Party candidate Malik Rahim wound up with nearly 3 percent, while Libertarian Gregory Kahn had less than 1 percent.

Cao made a victory speech at around 10:30 p.m. In a speech shortly thereafter, broadcast live on television, Jefferson blamed low turnout for his loss, saying he believes many of the African-American voters who make up his base ran out of “juice” and didn’t make it to the polls Saturday. He did not concede, however.
