Red Ryder Lives On Free BB Gun Range For Kids

It seems that a lot of guys in their eighties have been showing us how to get ‘er done lately! Here’s another of the “greatest generation” introducing the joy of shooting BB guns to today’s youth.

Elyria Township - At 84, Ted Dowdell has fond memories of shooting at tin cans with a BB gun, which he kept behind the kitchen door in his Elyria home.

That’s why Dowdell decided to turn the pole barn next to his Griswold Road house into a free shooting range for children.

“The kids don’t get a chance to shoot a BB these days,” Dowdell said Tuesday. “I’m just a host inviting my guests to come and shoot.”

I still have my Red Ryder and it still works.  The only weapons that children can use these days are the simulated ones in video games.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

Which give a graphic display of gore with each shot!

My first BB gun wasn’t a Red Ryder, but as I recall, it would hold 500 BBs at a time...almost as good as those guys on TV who never ran out of ammo!

I’ve never owned a Red Ryder, unfortunately.  My first gun was a .22 handed down by my grandfather.  I learned to shoot at pop cans at 6 years old with that thing.

Now that I think of it, it’s about time to break out that old .22 and have my daughter get started.

Proof ... and the guys on tv have the most amazing talent and never get hit even if it’s a machine gun shooting at them .. plus they always get the pretty lady and live happily ever after. Kids before never cared what brand BB gun they used and I remember I would (and still do), out shoot my sisters. My brother refused to be near girls with guns and so he stuck with his friends just out of range when it came to target shooting.  LOL, My dad used to say “theres a bad thing about a girl holding a gun… shes gonna use it”. Guys just never like competition.
Thanks for the nostalgia smile

That’s nothing! I once saw Barnaby Jones shoot a gun out of a guy’s hand 40 feet away with a 2” .38 snubby...shooting from the hip!

First gun I bought for Boy was a Red Ryder. For his 8th birthday. He was accurate right off the bat, and is scarily accurate with his Rossi .22 single shot.

My Red Ryder got handed down to my younger brothers, and it is worn slap out! Still at Mom’s house, it shoots. Barely.

We used to devastate the frog populations in the rivers near my house.
