Questions For Global Warming Zealots

1. Exacly what percentage of global climate change is man’s fault?

2. Exactly what global climate change is “normal” (Eg. if man wasn’t around what would be happening to the planet?)

3. Exactly how much reduction of our use of energy would be required to return to a natural climate change?

I posted these questions as a comment here.

- Update -
The Wistler adds:
4. If the US were to completely quit producing CO2 (I don’t know how) would that satisfy question #3.

and ManOfFireAndLight says none of these can be answered, so he wants to know

5. How long is a piece of string?

Doggone it, Seth! You went and spoiled a perfectly good and logical set of questions by calling them Zealots!

a) Since they don’t feel themselves to be zealots, they’ll exempt themselves from answering the questions. (Which, in truth, would have been very entertaining!)

b)If they did contemplate the questions, their heads would ‘splode! (Which, would also have been very entertaining!)

Seth,

I’d expect Sparkie to visit and declare your simple questions disregard the complex nature of global warming.

Nice post Seth.

Dagnabit… I meant to call them “Global Warming Saviors”… DRAT!  Maybe next time!  smile

Thank you HG!

4.  If the US were to completely quit producing CO2 (I don’t know how) would that satisfy question #3.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

None of these questions can be answered. You might as well ask #5 How long is a piece of string?

MOFAL,

If you think that we cannot answer these questions then why do you think that shutting down the US economy would help reduce global warming?  What do you think should be done?  How much should we cut out of our lives?  How much starvation should we expect to endure to save the globe?

Oh, quick, implement Kyoto (leaving out India and China) so that we can… what???!?  We don’t know that it will do anything more than starve a billion people who rely upon the output of the US.

That’s the point… What do we do about it… how much cost for how much reward!?!?

Everything AlGore says is made up and designed to instill FEAR.  FEAR might be a good short term motivator, but it usually results in chaos.  Do we want chaos?  Is that the goal of the irrational left?

How long is a piece of string?

The string can be measured. What I have a little trouble with, is someone telling me how long a similar string was 150 years before accurate string-measurers were invented, and based on how long the string was in my computer model, my country must disable much of its economy in the faint hope that my computer model is accurate.

At no point have I mentioned Gore. I found him repulsive in office and still don’t think much of the man. His smile has always seemed insincere to me. Nor have I advocated shutting down the US economy. To do that would create a worldwide recession, which we may not ever recover from.

What do you think should be done?  How much should we cut out of our lives?

Many of the things that qualify you as a conservative. Don’t live outside your means. Recycle. Walk or cycle to the shop instead of driving. Maybe buy a car that has good fuel efficiency. Use low energy lighting. Turn the light out when you leave a room. Install low-flush toilets. Install low-energy appliances. Pressure supermarkets to use less pointless packaging… I could go on, but you get the picture.
The alternatives are already there, so much so, that we can do our bit without surrendering the freedoms we have grown to love. Not much cost to make a few small changes, but if everyone did it we’d be able to make a difference and as first world countries, we have a responsibilty to lead by example.

MOFAL,

I agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY with everything you have written in your last post!  I’m quite sorry that I confused you for a GW Nut!  This is all quite rational and intuitive!

I’ve been looking at ways to replace my light bulbs with LEDs, but the cost is a bit prohibitive for me yet.  I contemplated starting a business to replace lights in Hotels with LEDs… but time (always the critical factor) doesn’t work with me.

That was pretty funny Proof!

Seth try here for bayonet fitting super-bright LEDs

replace lights in Hotels with LEDs

Steh: I travel a lot, and most of the places I’ve stayed have already converted to fluorescents. Don’t know what kind of ROI you’d have to show to make the change to LEDs.

1. Thanks for the link, MOFAL

2. Proof Reader Emeritus -

Don’t know what kind of ROI you’d have to show to make the change to LEDs.

Yeah, that’s a substantial chunk of the process of getting to market, but there are a couple technologies that would make the process worthwhile for a Hotel.  XSUN is a company that makes transparent solar panel window tinting.  Couple that with LED’s and a hotel might not have to spend a dime on Electricity for lighting…

I don’t have the data to prove an ROI though.

Another thing to try is solar tubes here.

MOFAL,

Yeah, seen the Solar Tubes… Very cool idea there!

As for the Australian LED link… Very nice stuff!  Quite nicely priced, I’ll have to check on the shipping.  Thanks again.
