Pope: Homosexuality A Threat To Humanity
Homosexuality is as great a threat as rainforest destruction, says Pope.
The Pope has declared that saving the world from homosexual behaviour is as important as saving the rainforests.
In a Christmas message, Benedict XVI stressed the importance of traditional marriage and condemned gay acts as against God’s will.
He also attacked transsexuals, saying: ‘It is not man who decides who is a man or woman but God.’
‘The Church must defend not only the earth, the water and the air as gifts of creation belonging to everyone, but it must also protect mankind against the destruction of itself.
‘The tropical forests deserve our protection, but man as a creature deserves it no less.’
In a clear reference to homosexuality, he said the failure to respect the union between a man and a woman amounted to the ‘auto destruction of mankind’.Humanity needed to ‘listen to the language of creation’ to understand the intended roles of man and woman, he added. Anything that deviated from this was a ‘destruction of God’s works’.
I am not a Roman Catholic and I do openly oppose many of their heterodox teachings; but, the Pope’s words herein are the reason why so many Christians oppose homosexuality and homosexual marriage, myself included. It represents an attack on the family and God’s creative design and plan for men and women, it is a perversion; that is, a deviation from that which is normal, and as such it undermines the family as a pillar of a stable society.
However, as I have said on many occasions at SAB, that belief does not condone any rude, unkind or hateful behavior towards homosexuals. Quite the contrary, being caught up in a destructive lifestyle choice, they need the prayers, compassion and understanding of all Christians, as we are all sinners and know how difficult it is to overcome besetting sins, especially of a sexual nature.
