Obama Rejects War Options

It sounds to me that: (1) Obama has his feelings hurt about being pressured to make a decision about Afghanistan and like a little child is going to hold his breath and turn blue rather than give in to his critics. (2) While he may send in more troops, half fighting and half in support, the sounds of this appears to me that he is looking for a quick exit strategy out. Gorbachev recommends that option.

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama does not plan to accept any of the Afghanistan war options presented by his national security team, pushing instead for revisions to clarify how and when U.S. troops would turn over responsibility to the Afghan government, a senior administration official said Wednesday.

That stance comes in the midst of forceful reservations about a possible troop buildup from the U.S. ambassador in Afghanistan, Karl Eikenberry, according to a second top administration official.

In strongly worded classified cables to Washington, Eikenberry said he had misgivings about sending in new troops while there are still so many questions about the leadership of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Obama is still close to announcing his revamped war strategy — most likely shortly after he returns from a trip to Asia that ends on Nov. 19.

I have recommended we get out of Afghanistan because I never thought Obama would commit the troops, weapons and change the rules of engagement to ensure victory; and his playing around would only get more NATO troops killed, without any success for the price we woulds pay in lives. So, if this is a half-hearted approach as it appears it will be, I hope he is trying to get us out this next year and I only hope it won’t be like in Vietnam and a lot of people get killed running away in the middle of the night with America’s tail between its legs.
