Keep up the foolishness Anna, it’s pretty cool.
Proof: Now that was funny!
No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.
I’m going with the romance angle.
Excuse me, you were saying?
Homecoming can be so great where love is concerned..
You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.
While the picture is nice, the myopic extreme right-wing views in people’s signatures are laughable.
“proof” - John McCain’s prediction was correct? Success? Wow. Yes, you sure have a success on your hands, just like Vietnam right? This is why the world just looks at America and shakes it’s head in pity.
“docdave” - You don’t have to be a fascist to be a Republican in the U.S. but it sure helps. How soon we forget history....
Dear Stupid,
Perhaps I missed an earlier comment of yours. If so I apologize. But please explain why it is that you self-styled “progressive” types are always getting your thongs athwart over the purported opinions of a bunch of foreigners? As I recall, they don’t vote in our elections (thank God!) nor do they pay taxes here (their own socialist tax burdens are onerous enough) nor do they offer much of a contribution elsewhere, including so-called treaty obligations, partnerships, and the like. Our “allies” in Afghanistan, for example are renown as being led by bureaucratic temporizers, not warriors, and the problems we face there are directly attributable to their slothful leadership.
So, given all that, please explain why on earth we should give a shit about the opinions of those who are more hindrance than helpmate and who contribute nothing to our efforts but more unctuous hot air… like yours?

our efforts
your efforts? i think those efforts are those of the progs you deride, as long as they are americans. you guys define yourselves in opposition to commies, progs, whathaveyou. progs and commies define themselves in opposition to you. and there are plenty of them around. this, after all, is effing america.
‘our’ efforts are multifarious.
you view people who disagree with your worldview as being unamerican and nothing could be farther from the truth. being an american amounts to having a passport and a bitchin’ set of rights, not endorsing your worldview. i understand you are being territorial about the troll, but don’t imply that there is one way to be american.

You were attacked by an Afghan-backed terror organization, and you’re complaining because your allies aren’t showing proper leadership? Please tell me that you’re kidding.
Saw one I wish I had a pic of. An Engineer Battalion returning to their PANG Armory, huge crowd, one GI thronged by a group of young ladies, all of whom apparently thought they were his girlfriend and commenced to fight over him. Talk about uncomfortable reunions!

I was thinking “nice boots”.
And really, today’s boots are so many times better than those of the Vietnam era. I have a pair that are insulated, but are still comfortable even in the summer. I wear them in all seasons. They have great Vibram soles too.
One of the many improvements that the military has gotten right over the last couple of decades has been the boots. And why not?, boots probably have more impact on the performance of a soldier than any other piece of equipment.
Great pic!
But doesn’t she know that flip flops are bad for your health?

Paul,
I’m not sure where you’re from, but in this part of the free world when someone makes a commitment to do something the assumption is that they will actually make the effort to fulfill the obligation they have undertaken. Its called living up to your word… in case you are unfamiliar with the concept.
Nor are our European allies less than reliable militarily in only Afghanistan. I can recall not one instance where United Nations’ so-called “Peace-keepers” have been anywhere near effective except when commanded by US military commander as in Korea. In the Middle East, Africa, the Balkans, and just about everywhere else they’ve been deployed, the blue helmeted UN forces have been as ineffectual and counter-productive as those words allow. Especially when under European command!
“Poverty of goods is easily cured; poverty of the mind is irreparable.”
Bat One - I’m very aware of the concept of living up to your word, my country has been doing it for some time now. Now are you aware of the concept of ‘taking care of business’? When you’re attacked by a country you seem to have three choices:
1. Take care of business
2. With international agreement, take care of business
3. Contract to others to take care of business.
I understand 1, though my preference is for 2. But 3? And then to complain when they don’t do it the way you want it? That might be OK when it’s Thomas the Tank Engine toys with too much lead paint on them, but when it’s national defense I respectfully suggest that as a nation you man up.
Can we stop arguing about politics long enough to simply enjoy a wonderful picture of a wonderful time for a soldier and his girl? Please?
