No Religious Speech if it Condemns Homosexuality

Kansas City officials said Thursday that they would pull city support from a large spiritual conference planned at Bartle Hall this month.

The action came after Kansas City Council members expressed concern about a scheduled preacher who has condemned homosexuals. [This in itself is a lie, there is a great difference between condemning homosexual conduct and condemning homosexuals, and the city should not engage in promoting such lies.]

David Park, acting director of neighborhoods and community services, said he would not recommend the council approve a $5,000 grant to organizers of the Life Changers Conference, set for July 15-19. Park said he was concerned that the event violated city requirements that it not be religious in nature.

First, it is a spiritual conference, yet the city did not suspect beforehand that it was religious in nature. That does not pass the smell test! Or, these are the most retarded city officials in human history!

Next, I don’t understand why people conducting a spiritual conference should ever apply for government financial support. If the conference is important and if it is to be free from state influence, they should pay the full costs. That is, unless the city provides such financial support for groups promoting things like the homosexual agenda, in which case they MUST provide that financial support for religious groups as well.

Most importantly to me, the reason the city threw such a hissy fit was not the religious nature of the event, it was because a speaker, outside the event, had been known to preach against homosexuality on a biblical basis, which objections by the city represents state hostility towards religion and an official preference and support for the homosexual agenda.

If the facilities are available to the public, absent the funding issue, it is a violation of the First Amendment to deny religious groups full and equal access to the public square for purposes of political speech or religious worship. IF the Bill of Rights any longer has any meaning at all!
