No Graduation for Confederate Flag-Wavers

A senior week “prank” that involved flying the Confederate flag in a public high school parking lot left three Minnesota students banned from walking with their fellow graduates at a commencement ceremony Wednesday night.
School bans three students from graduation after displaying Confederate flag.

Seniors Dan Fredlin and Justin Thompson, both 18, and Joey Snyder, 17, were suspended and restricted from the diploma ceremony after arriving at John F. Kennedy High School in Bloomington, Minn., Tuesday with the flags affixed to their cars. One of the teens had a flag hoisted on a 20-foot flagpole attached to his truck.

School district officials say the students were “carrying and waving” the Confederate flags when they arrived at their last day of school, a violation of the school’s code of conduct.

The school’s principal, Ron Simmons, who is black, made the decision to suspend the trio and ban them from the commencement, a decision school district officials affirmed.

Let’s see: You can burn a perfectly good American flag, and it’s called “free speech”, but you can’t display a confederate flag without repercussions?  What?

Ditto Robert.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

I’ve been in that high school; the pervasiveness of propaganda there is something to behold.  This doesn’t surprise me in the least.

A middle finger salute to that high school principal.  Ooh, I think I have just been banned from their graduation ceremony.

Had they waved the red flag with a hammer and cycle or worn a Che t-shirt or displayed a black power slogan somehow I’m sure that would have been accepted as freedom of speech.

I don’t agree with the sentiments expressed (surreptitiously, deliberately, or inadvertantly) with the display of the Conferderate flag, but it should be a right to display it if you wish.

More PC madness.

Had they waved a flag with a fist on it, would they be expelled?

aw.
the south is just sore because their lazy, oppressive asses got spanked back in the day. what about ‘bong hits for jesus’? do you guys support that kid too?

and anyone who believes that there is no racism in this country is full of shit. just the other day i was in a gun shop listening to a man explain to his 6-8 year old son… “no son, that ain’t a nigger gun” (pointing at a .308 bolt action with a scope) “now that’s a nigger gun!” (points to an ar-15 with all the bells and whistles)

sad. denying that reality achieves nothing other than laying bare the amount of denial going on in here.

Sparkie,

The incident took place in Bloomington, Minnesota.  Hardly the hallowed home of grits, cornbread, and black-eyed peas.  Pay attention!

Are you trying to say that the confederate flag was not flown by the south during the civil war? or are you pointing out that, lacking the appropriate geographical-political motivations, this was clearly a racist act?

WOw, you guys really like to steal points from one another. How creative. So do you support fist flag flying?

SERIOUSLY, CAN I GET SOMEONE TO DEFEND THE ‘BONGHITS FOR JESUS’ KID OR WHAT? it only makes sense since you are outraged by the injustice here.

PS - I would bet $ that the ACLU would back these kids up. What do you think?

HEY all,
Your candidate is a confederate flag suppressor! Found towards the end of the article Anna linked…

The flag debate in South Carolina pinned President George W. Bush and current Republican presidential hopeful John McCain against one another in the 2000 primary campaign. Bush called it a states’ rights issue, while McCain came out as an opponent of waving the flag from the capital dome.

No, moron!  I’m pointing out the hypocrisy of the dirtbag principal.  It’s a clear double standard, but then you lefties operate in that consciousness, so you just take it for granted, I guess.  You might dial back the booze a bit, sparkie; you seem more incoherent than usual today.

Agreed.  There is plenty of institutional racism in all of the “affirmative action” govt programs, plus Obama’s “former” church.  Racism is alive and well today in the Dem Party, just like it has always been.
Your example of a private conversation between a father and his son isn’t an example of racism.  You are confused by your addiction to Political Correctness.  We have a First Amendment in this country, and it there to protect uncomfortable speech.  Get real.

Okay, all bullshitting aside, I don’t agree that the kids should be barred from graduating for the Confederate flag issue, but how can anyone actually say something like this?

Is it an example of tolerance, Robert?  It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that if this guy is willing to use the word “nigger” like he did, there is no love lost between him and blacks.  Does he have the right to say it?  Sure.  But it’s also an example of racism.

Is racism only racism if it occurs by a government entity or representative?  Are there no Republican racists?

Do you read any of the shit you write before hitting the submit button?

The school’s principal is being a little presumptive and a little too sensitive.  Perhaps the students were honoring the Scots-Irish redneck heritage.  As a sidenote, the Civil War was much more about sovereignty than about black slavery.  At the time of the Emancipation Proclamation there were slaveholding states in the Union: Delaware, Maryland,
Missouri, West Virginia, and Kentucky.  So if the slaveholding Union was fighting the slaveholding Confederacy, how could one come to the conclusion the Civil War was about slavery?  Perhaps with the same philosophical thought that says the confederate flag equals racism.

What part of “private conversation” didn’t you understand?  While your version of “tolerance” might be a good thing, we don’t use the heavy hand of authority to enforce it on private citizens engaged in their private lives.  FYI, it’s called the First Amendment.
Eavesdropping on a conversation doesn’t entitle you to sling your bullshit at them, if you don’t like something that wasn’t said to you in the first place.
Political Correctness is racist by nature, as only the favored groups of the left are “protected” by it.
What about the soft bigotry of low expectations that is the hallmark of every leftie social engineering pyramid scheme? Isn’t that racist?
Racism isn’t about words, it’s about outcomes, but then as a leftie, you can’t be expected to know about that.  You have your “feelings”, after all.

Technically, the flag flown at Kennedy High was not flown by the Confederacy.  The rectangular naval standard used a different (darker I believe) shade of blue, and Lee’s battle flag was square, not rectangular.

And for what it’s worth, Kennedy gladly flies a flag that’s even more obnoxious than the popular view of the Southern Cross; the U.N. flag.  How many billions have been enslaved while the U.N. looked the other way?
