New Orleans as it Should Be Today

It’s been now two years since the onslaught of Katrina and the death and destruction she wrought.  I am convinced now more than I was then that the reason New Orleans is still a mess and in limbo is RACE.

If this had been a city full of Norwegians there would have been no questions asked.  The parts above the flood would be rebuilt.  The wards underwater and sinking would be abandoned.  The houses, trees and infrastructure still standing in ruin would be pushed together and land filled for building upon years from now.  Just like they did after the San Fransisco Earthquake a century ago, just like they did after the Chicago Fire.  Till then they could be a nice garden for people to enjoy.

The rest could be left as a big hole in the ground to receive garbage and debris from the other areas like Mississippi to keep raising the levels and not the levees.  In a few years there would be substantial additional land recovered.  In a hundred years or so perhaps half the city would be back.  The rest would be a below sea level forest for people to enjoy when it was dry.

But, we won’t do this.  They aren’t Norwegians.  They are black.  The city represents something that will never be again.  Maybe never should.

Let the town become a nice little town of 200,000 people, businesses and homes.  Nevermore New Orleans as it was before.

Did anyone ask if perhaps that’s as it should have been?  I just did.

Gene you referred to Grand Forks yesterday.

For your information the low areas in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks were not rebuilt rather than trusting the dikes again.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

I am not sure why some people want to rebuild some of the wards that are below the see level and they will be prone to re-flooding again. It is just a matter of time.

Glenn Beck touched on this last night on his show. Apparently they are trying to blame the Bush administration of racism for not rebuilding N.O. faster. The problem is N.O. is as corupt as the as the Iraqi government.

Your right whistler they made a greeway and tore up a golf corse, and about tree neighborhoods instead of re-building because they were advised against it…

Larry Kudlow pointed out:

How much money has Uncle Sam spent on New Orleans and the Gulf region since Hurricane Katrina ripped the place apart?

I’ll give you the answer because you’ll never guess it. The grand total is $127 billion (including tax relief).

That’s right: a monstrous $127 billion. Of course, not a single media story has highlighted this gargantuan government-spending figure. But that number came straight from the White House in a fact sheet subtitled, “The Federal Government Is Fulfilling Its Commitment to Help the People of the Gulf Coast Rebuild.”

Huh?

This is an outrage. The entire GDP of the state of Louisiana is only $141 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. So the cash spent there nearly matches the entire state gross GDP. That’s simply unbelievable. And to make matters worse, by all accounts New Orleans ain’t even fixed!

Trolls. It’s what’s for breakfast!
And then I eat their lunch.
