NBC Claims Victim Status
In challenging a recent court decision that prevents NBC from excluding Dennis Kucinich from it’s televised debates, NBC is claiming that its Constitutional rights to freedom of the press are being violated.
The media is quick to use the Constitution to claim victim status but ignores the fact that freedom of the press was guaranteed in order to protect the rights of the people. Does the media really think that they were singled out to have rights for their own purposes? Do they really think that freedom of the press was intended to give them the right to manipulate elections?
In a Constitutional Republic, the rights and desires of the minority are supposed to be taken into account and accommodated. How can this be done if the minority is not heard?
Individual rights and freedom are paramount as the Constitution’s basis. Dennis Kucinich’s freedom of speech and the rights of the people he represents supersede anything that the press would interpret as it’s right to limit them.
