My First Reader Blog Entry

Rob just walked me through getting me here.  He may or may not have created a monster.  I pretty much agree with everything he says but there are times… now I have a medium!!!

I sttended the Shared Parenting meeting last night.  I was some what encouraged with the support.  There weren’t a lot of people there but those who were there were enthusiastic.  Hopefully all who care about children will vote yes on Measure 3.

Welcome to the world of Blogging.

What was Rob’s most embarassing moment?

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Welcome!

When realitybasedbob starts frothing at the mouth with some of his silliness, just put your fingers in your ears and ignore him.  It works best that way.

Whistler:  Probably when I called him Bunny in front of his football team.

Steve:  Will use fingers in ears.

Bunny, oh I mean Rob, you got mom on here?  Hee Hee little do they know they that your favorite older (but much younger looking) sister faithfully reads everyday. I’ve only commented once or twice but I find it very entertaining reading all the entries and comments.  Keep it up Rob!

NDGAL on October 27, 2006 at 08:26 am

So Sis, what was Rob’s most embarrassing moment?

Oh, I’ll leave that up to mom to disclose.  He won’t be as mad at her as he would at me.  Even though I can still kick his......bunny bottom!  Wait, maybe THAT could be his most embarassing moment....hmmmmm

I never should have told my family about this blog…

No.  Not that you’d ever be willing to believe that.

What is measure3?

Margie on October 27, 2006 at 03:53 pm

That’s the North Dakota Shared Parenting Initiative.  In the case of divorce the default would be that both parties are equally parents to the child.  The burden of proof is on the system to remove parental rights from one of the childs parents.

Sounds like a winner to me. Losing custody of a child would be heart breaking for a mother or father

Margie on October 27, 2006 at 03:57 pm

I agree with you margie.  The theory behind it is that a child does best with both parents involved in their lives.

Was there a reason there that such a measure seemed necessary? Scales balanced in favor of someone?

Margie on October 27, 2006 at 03:59 pm

I guess in most instances that would be true. Should have to be a very good reason to take custody away

Margie on October 27, 2006 at 04:01 pm

I think that it’s impossible for a judge in a few minutes to determine which parent is actually suited better to raise a child.

Social Services on the other hand has a huge financial stake in broken up families where the spouse with the better job loses custody.

New with computers, found out why my blogs kept going away, but not registering. You can’t get impatient and keep clicking wiile it is opening. Duh! Did not mean to be rude and leave so abruptly just as things were getting interesting

We need all the help we can get for the children of divorce

Margie on October 27, 2006 at 04:05 pm

New with computers,

They can be exhasperating, can’t they.

Hope you don’t mean that the parent with the better job should be the criteria for custody! This idea of joint custody makes more sense than just asking who can give the child more material things. Besides, theres always child support

Margie on October 27, 2006 at 04:08 pm

That’s what Social Services figures on.

They get paid from the federal government according to how much child support money they can “facilitate”.  In that case the greater child support will be when the lower income spouse has full custody.

Surprise surprise that’s what Social services recommends.

It’s for the Kids.

So for the buck they’re working to make some parents rare in their children’s lives.

I’ve not gone through this myself, but I’ve got sympathy for sure.

What a system! Whatever happened to what is best for the child? Must things always be based on money? Makes you want to just scrap it all and start over sometimes. Not really.

Margie on October 27, 2006 at 04:15 pm

Yeah, blame Congress for writing the law that way that gives Social Services the incentive to do that.

They’re fighting this tooth and nail, find that surprising.

Margie: For your information.. The Shared Parenting Initiative will put the decision making powers in the hands of both parents.  As it stands now, my son has no say in what school his daughter attends, which church, which doctor.  His ex-wife will sometimes let him know what’s going on.  He usually finds out about doctor visits when he gets the bill for his half of the co-pay.  The ex tells him what time to pick up the child, where to pick her up, and doesn’t give an inch on the times.  My son would give anything to baby sit while the ex is out but since it isn’t “his time” it’s not allowed.  By the ex.  This measure means that in a divorce both parents will have be involved in making a parenting play, whether it be 50-50 time with the child or not, and if they can’t come up with a plan that is in the best interest of the child, a plan will be made for them by a mediator.  Some non-custodial parents want fifty/fifty time with the child and some do not.  This measure would not mandate 50/50 time if the parents agree this would not work.  If one of the parents wants 50/50 then they’ll have to make a plan.  All most non-custodial parents want is more time with their children.  My granddaughter is the light of my life, my heart.  I want to have more time with her too.
