Muslims Outraged At police Advert Featuring Cute Puppy Sitting In Policeman’s hat

Oh brother...

A postcard featuring a cute puppy sitting in a policeman’s hat advertising a Scottish police force’s new telephone number has sparked outrage from Muslims.

Tayside Police’s new non-emergency phone number has prompted complaints from members of the Islamic community.

The choice of image on the Tayside Police cards - a black dog sitting in a police officer’s hat - has now been raised with Chief Constable John Vine.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The advert has upset Muslims because dogs are considered ritually unclean and has sparked such anger that some shopkeepers in Dundee have refused to display the advert.

Dundee councillor Mohammed Asif said: ‘My concern was that it’s not welcomed by all communities, with the dog on the cards.

‘It was probably a waste of resources going to these communities.

‘They (the police) should have understood. Since then, the police have explained that it was an oversight on their part, and that if they’d seen it was going to cause upset they wouldn’t have done it.’
[...]

“They (the police) should have understood”
Uh yeah ‘scuse me peeps… it ain’t possible or necessary to please foreigners wanting to live outside their own country.
It’s a given rule that you adapt to the country you make your new home. For centuries, many foreigners have relocated to new countries and adapted contently and very happy to be accepted… AND without whining of any sorts or expectations of having things changed on their behalf.
Although, there is a quick and quiet way to solve this continuous problem. If you don’t like the culture of the country you immigrated invaded with your cultural racism ... then perhaps moving back to your own country is best for everyone. Adapt or leave, please

This would appear to be entirely the problem of the Muslim community, that’s about the most polite way I can put it.

Believe me, my first reaction was quite a bit more profane...er...profound…

What’s the big deal? If the merchant refuses to display the poster because of his religious beliefs, that is his right. An individual’s right to practice his beliefs is a corner stone of our Constitution. I bet the only people stirring the pot on this one is the media and anti-immigration activists.
As for adapting or leaving: I wonder how many American visitors go to foreign countries on the notion that they do not have to know the language because everyone speaks English. Now, is that elitist or not?

Just returned on Monday from a business trip to London.  I was stunned by the number of burka-shrouded women on London’s main streets, all with numerous small children and babies.

Most, of course, were accompanied by a scowling muslim male and all chattered away in their native tongues. No english needed or - apparently - wanted.

Maybe if your business trips involved something other than kiddie porn, you would not be surprised by the various other cultures that thrive in Europe. Why should any immigrant be forced to talk to his fellows in other than their native tongues. We don’t speak the Hawaiian dialect.
I hope your presumptiousness gave your paranoia a boost.

Your comments about the Muslim couple speaking their native tongue pissed me off. You don’t know how many times I have heard conservatives point to innocent behaviors like this to justify hatred and anti-immigrant sentiments. It seems like you fall right in line with these people, whom I deplore.
And what was your racist comment about numerous small children and babies? Would you have said that if you had seen similar groups of English children?

It seems to me that you used your limited contact with this group of Muslims to justify your prejudice against them.

Pparets was not saying anything at all like you are trying to imply. Your upset with him and his opposing views have caused you to read into his clear words, emotions not contained therein. These were simple observations of a changing landscape in Londonistan, a preview of what is coming here very fast; a people demanding we adapt to their language, accommodate our ways to their customs and that we submit to their religious laws, versus having what used to be common among all aliens, a desire to assimilate and thereby become part of their new home.

Watashiwa more than likely isn’t capable of a more advanced level of thought… at least not for any sustained period of time.  You most clearly are.

Goon:  Your efforts to act as an apologist for conservative freedom of speech regarding Watashiwa’s libelous slander - that I was in London for the purpose of kiddie-porn - is absurd.

Freedom of speech does not include accusing someone of that kind of behavior.

Then, think what you just said:  If something someone writes is offensive… don’t read it. That suggestion makes no sense.  First, you couldn’t know it was offensive until you read it.  Secondly, whether one reads it or not, others will!

Furthermore, if he had told me to go f myself, i would have responded in kind.

WHEN YOU ACCUSE SOMEONE OF INDULGING IN KIDDIE-PORN, YOU HAVE CROSSED THE LINE!  SIMPLE AS THAT.

As pparets just pointed out, there is no absolute freedom, of speech or of any other variety.  Slander, libel, conspiracy, and inciting to violence and treason are NOT protected.  Nor, as those on the Left are so eager to overlook, is there any freedom without a concomitant responsibility for the consequences.

Watashiwa’s pitiful attempt at being glib marks him as nothing but a vile little ass, hardly worthy of the attentions of any of the adults here.

While the idea the speech is not an absolute right, these are very poor examples.  Freedom of speech only protects you from the government.  Slander is almost never a government issue.  Conspiracy generally cannot be just speech, it should have an overt act.  Inciting violence can be speech and is an example.  I think it would be almost impossible to convict somebody for treason based on just speech.

There are levels of speech.  Political speech is the most inviolate.  You can always criticize the government.  That is why treason cannot be just speech.  It must include something else, such as giving away secrets.  A lower level of speech is commercial speech.  You cannot advertise something for what it is not.  That is not protected.

It’s definitely a matter of degree; I have been both accused of, and pictured as, being a cop clubbing someone, and as a dope dealer selling drugs.  None of it true, and I told the attacker a liar(which was true).  Beyond that, there’s not much more you can do, except to be very careful about revealing any bits of personal information.  The lying leftie trolls will use any pretext to launch personal attack, as that is all they have.  They are to be pitied, and avoided.  They are sick hypocrites.

Watishwa, I think you can voice your frustration with pparets without needing to resort to such unfounded, salacious libel.

It really tells us more about you than him.  And the comments above from “fishing days” are inaccurate.  Posting under an assumed name on a web forum does not protect anyone from libel (slander is the spoken version).  Also, nobody here is anonymous.  At the very least, I have everyone’s IP addresses and should someone say something here that’s illegal, or should someone like pparets wish to pursue action against scurrilous accusations from people like Watishwa, I would happily disclose that information.

So I’d watch it, Watishwa.  The consequences for the kind of nonsense you’ve engaged in on this thread can reach far beyond merely being banished.  Which is something I won’t hesitate to do if you continue.
