Multiculturalists and Iran
Events in Iran present multiculturalists like President Obama with a conundrum.
After all, President Ahmadinejad ‘s anti-Bush, post-colonial, anti-western, anti-Zionist, anti-Christian credentials are impeccable. Less than two years ago he was feted in the liberal bastions such as Columbia and the UN with widespread liberal support and over the objections of American conservatives.
The anti-colonial credentials of the Iran’s Supreme leader were also confirmed yesterday; Reuters reported on his disrespect for the greatest former imperial power.
[...]And let’s not forget the liberal fawning over the Yale-Taliban, as that university celibrated its “multicultural diversity” in welcoming this exemplar of the murderous, misogynist Taliban regime.
In contrast, the peaceful protestors in Iran are employing advanced western technologies to defeat the Iranian regime’s attempts to silence its critics. The young protestor reportedly have an affinity for western culture and want to cast off Iran’s brutal, misogynist Islamic ways in favor of greater integration with the west. Post-colonial multi-culturalists doubtless fear that a newly peaceful Iran will reduce pressure in regional conflict on the hated “colonial” Zionist regime in Israel.
So who is a multiculturalist to support in Iran today? Who is an “authentic” Iranian deserving of moral support? Who is the nemesis of the Zionists? Is it the reputedly pro-western peaceful protestors seeking fair elections or is it the indigenous “multicultural” brutal islamacists.
Ideologues like Obama always have trouble with real-life situations.
As long as he can keep things intellectual-sounding and theoretical, no problem, but when people and lives are being affected, ideology offers no solutions that actually work.
Beware the ideologue.
