Morons

Personally, I couldn’t care less about gay marriage.  I’m not gay, so it really doesn’t affect me.  My problem is with the tactics that the gay rights’ community uses.  I think they are stupid for trying to go about change the way they are.

In Washington state, a group is trying to get an initiative on the ballot:

Initiative 957 was filed by the Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance. That group was formed last summer after the state Supreme Court upheld Washington’s ban on same-sex marriage.

Under the initiative, marriage would be limited to men and women who are able to have children. Couples would be required to prove they can have children in order to get a marriage license, and if they did not have children within three years, their marriage would be subject to annulment.

All other marriages would be defined as “unrecognized” and people in those marriages would be ineligible to receive any marriage benefits.

Will this do anything to advance the debate?  Of course not.  This is a cheap publicity stunt designed to draw attention to their cause.  In fact, it will likely draw such ire that it will further entrench those opposed to gay marriage in their positions.

I don’t actually belive that these people really want gay marriage.  If they ever got it, they would have to find something else to complain about.  This way, they can continue to act oppressed and continue being martyrs.  That’s all they really want anyway.

Sounds like “I’ll show you” legislation. I can’t believe anyone older than twelve can’t see this for what it is.

Stupid…

What about people who want to get married but don’t feel like they want children?  Or what about a soldier who wants to marry his girlfriend but got wounded and can’t have children any more?

So dumb.

This is petty, but the group does have a point.

If you’re against the idea of “gay marriage”, don’t use the children argument as one of your supporting arguments. Lesbian couples routinely have children now. So where is the child argument going to lead you? Nowhere.

I’m not so vain that I didn’t think this thread was about me when I read the title.

Steve hit it right when he said it’s going to further entrench the opposition to gay marriage.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

What conservatives could do is threaten to actually agree with the initiative so that it has a chance of going through.  Then sit back and watch how quickly the initiative just fades away.  smile

99% of the tactics used by the gay rights forces are designed to deliberately make people mad.  That’s all I can guess.  Why else would you continue to engage in behavior that you know just makes the other side resist even more?

I have long said that the problem is one of impatience.  I guarantee that gay marriage will be a reality in my lifetime (I am 46) if they use the right tactics.  If the argument is that gay people are just normal people like everyone else, then they should act that way.  Don’t get in people’s faces and force them to acknowledge that they are different.  They need to show them that they are the same.  Once you do that, most people won’t care about it one way or the other.
