More Demagoguery on the Part of CNN/Time/Warner

Cnn has an interesting “front page” article up this evening: Bush lonely this election. And here’s the image that they pair with it:

I suppose it wouldn’t surprise anybody here to learn that this simply isn’t true.  Conveniently, the AP has an article up Bush Works to Save GOP in Last Campaign which makes it easy to make mincemeat pie of the CNN fantasy story.  Here’s an excerpt:

[Bush] is doing what he can to help make that happen and certainly has more impact on the race than any other politician.

Bush has raised more than $193 million at about 90 events this election season. He has posed with dozens of smiling candidates on the steps of Air Force One. He has eaten ice cream with a candidate who admitted to marital infidelity.

Note exactly a lonely cowboy, do you think?

Carrick, I’m shocked!

How dare you use things like “facts” and “reality” to smear the fine, truth-seeking journalists at Time?

Guilty as charged.

I had to leave that snarky comment by the AP reporter in though: “He has eaten ice cream with a candidate who admitted to marital infidelity.”

I suppose the reason Bush ate ice cream with the candidate was because the candidate screws around, right?  Otherwise, why is it pertinent to the story?

There are times that I think reporters are dumber than flies.

You only feel that way at times?

I actually shouldn’t say that though, as a few friends of mine who happen to be reporters read this blog.  They’re all pretty good, but as a whole journalists suck.

Rob, I generally don’t go around thinking that reporters are stupid, though I do think they’re dumb for claiming an imperviousness to bias not possible in any other field.

But it says something very negative about the profession when they run as a front-cover article something as poorly reasoned through as this Time magazine article was.  For once, the AP story was much closer to truth, even if it couldn’t avoid asshat comments about unfaithful Republican congressmen.

You are a better man than I in that department.  I just get so frustrated some times…

I think some major changes in the media are in the works, though.  I just cannot fathom how they can continue as they are now, hemorrhaging readership/viewership and trust from their readers/viewers, without a change.
