Media Bias, Public Apathy. Which is worse?

I have intended for several weeks to submit a post on this, and through workload and dilatoriness I just ain’t got to it. Sorry, Rob. Though now, thanks to the kindness of Mr. Port, I will do this in several installments, it being a rather broad and disjointed subject. In laying the direct charge of bias upon any single journalist you immediately have to put forward a large amount of evidence pointing to and delineating exactly what and where said bias is going toward and coming from. This would eat up a substantial amount of bandwidth, which I do not believe Rob would really appreciate. So, a more direct approach is my aim.Washinton Post Article, Standing GuardThis story caught my attention in mid-August, along with several others I have since lost track of(that apathy thing rears its ugly head) that I thought should get a great deal more attention from both sides of the political aisle than they have. With the ongoing debates on border security and illegal immigration you would think this story would get more than a passing glance in a Sunday edition of one of our capitals major papers. And yet, down the memoryhole it went. Then today on BBC International webpage, another story that should very well be getting broad international attention, and is instead getting the fishwrap treatment. In both instances very compelling stories, both extremely relevent to important topics of the day. How many people are even aware that the govenment of Sudan is working diligently to throw the people helping the refugees in Darfur to survive out of Darfur and Sudan all together. Has anyone, other than news junkies, even heard this outlandish and insane story? Bias or apathy. And now gang, since there is a major lightining storm here I will cut this off as the first installment. Let me know. Lets have some opinions on these divergent stories.
