McCain Woos Fiscal Conservatives at CNP, But…

Yesterday in New Orleans, John McCain spoke to, and took questions from, members of the Council for National Policy, a ‘secretive’ but influential conservative think-tank.

Reporters were not permitted in the meeting and had to listen to the forum from a nearby room. When interviewed afterwards, most delegates spoke on condition of anonimity.

What is emerging from sessions like these is that McCain’s economic proposals appeal to fiscal conservatives, but that social conservatives continue to be highly skeptical. His foreign policy positions seemed to find some traction with both groups.

Which all goes to show that we conservatives are a tough crowd.

PP:  I’m not going to accept that what he supposedly says in an off the record meeting counts for what he’s actually going to do if he wins.

Now if he makes a read my lips pledge I’ll accept that.  I think he’ll keep his word, but if we don’t have it he’d rather make friends with the liberals.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Now, if he makes a read my lips pledge..

One like Bush senior made?  One like Reagan made?

Seems to me, that every time McCain responds to one of your requirements, you raise the bar a little higher.  True?

No, John McCain had (and still has) a lot of trust to rebuild.  A secret off the record meeting doesn’t make it with me.

I think McCain is smart enough to have learned from GHWB’s mistake.

Whistler:  There was no secret, off the record meeting. The CNP gathering - and McCain’s comments - have been widely reported on. Reporters were privvy to the whole proceeding, via broadcast from a nearby room. Just go to the link I provided.

For whatever reason, members of the CNP - large contributors to and policy makers for conservative causes - prefer not to be shown on TV.

Apparently I read too much into this.  However if McCain wants to make a promise, make a promise to the country so we can hold him to it.

Whistler--

Bush Seniors’ ‘Read my lips’ pledge was broken and infuriated his base.  As a result of this feeling of betrayal this base stayed home in droves and the rest is history.

Conservatives voted for Bush, Jr., thinking that we would finally be delivered from free-spending, weak-kneed, bone-headed Dem policies (and the RINO-GOP congress shares blame here), and once again, the RINO-acting Congress inspired their conservative constituents to stay home, and the Dems were restored to power.

We KNOW McCain is part of this Leftist RINO clique—any promises he makes, unless they comport with his voting track record over the last eight years or so, can only be counted as campaign lies.

Anyone who believes any promises by McCain to govern Conservatively is incredibly gullible.

Move_Zig:  And so you recommend who for President of the United States?

Your endless McCain-is-a-lib crap helps nothing!
