McCain Signs Friend of the Court Brief On DC Gun Law

John McCain added his signature to a Friend of The Court brief which includes the signatures of 55 other Senators, 258 House members and Vice President Richard Cheney.

The brief calls on the Supreme Court to affirm the lower court ruling which voided the DC City Council Ordinance banning private ownership of handguns. The high court will hear arguments on Tuesday, 18 March.

Senators Obama and Clinton did not affix their signatures to the brief, giving 2nd Amendment advocates a clear signal as to where either of them would stand on gun rights as president.

No-brainer for McCain. He should be out there hammering Karl Marx in a Pantsuit and Jesus 2.0 over the 2A issue every chance he gets. Nothing speaks more to the freedom of the American people than a government that trusts the people to carry arms responsibly in defense of themselves and their communities.

It is high time that the citizens of DC, black as well as white, be allowed their Constitutional Right to self defense.

As for McC, why has he not spoken out about this injustice before?

The suit has been a long time coming.  I have read the brief and this is a good, solid case.

2hotel9:  Members of congress generally refrain from commenting on cases which are moving up through the courts. McC spoke in the best way possible, by signing the brief.

Notice that Obama and Clinton did not.

No. Why did he never speak out about this crime against the citizens of DC BEFORE it was a SC case. Just another example of self-serving and backstabbing on McC’s part.

2hotel9: Well, he could have, but in fairness , neither did Fred Thompson, Dick Cheney, or any other conservative that I know of.  The good news is that he did  speak out on the brief, where it really matters.  Lets hope that Roberts, Thomas and Alito get two more votes [or more] to STOP this outrage.

20 how many years in Congress? And he never said a word about the citizens of DC being denied their God given, Constitutional rights? And Thompson did, in fact, have somewhat to say about the issue during his time in Congress. He caught a lot of flak over it. Cheney, when serving in previous Admins, also had a few words to say about it. As I recall racebaitingpovertypimp Democrats screeched that Cheney wanted to bring the Wild West to DC and claimed he was calling for arming criminals.
