Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says

Mars Melt Hints at Solar, Not Human, Cause for Warming, Scientist Says

GAAKH!  Now humans are polluting the neighborhood.  This never would have happened if Algore had been elected.

“The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars,” he said.

Abdussamatov’s work, however, has not been well received by other climate scientists…

...who compete with him for funding.

“His views are completely at odds with the mainstream scientific opinion,” said Colin Wilson, a planetary physicist at England’s Oxford University.

no kidding

“And they contradict the extensive evidence presented in the most recent IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] report.” (Related: “Global Warming ‘Very Likely’ Caused by Humans, World Climate Experts Say” [February 2, 2007].)

why do these lunatics continue to unquestioningly refer to the same politically motivated studies?

Amato Evan, a climate scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, added that “the idea just isn’t supported by the theory or by the observations.”

Theories are just that, theory.  Observations:  gee it’s getting warmer here, so that must be due to human activity.

The conventional theory is that climate changes on Mars can be explained primarily by small alterations in the planet’s orbit and tilt, not by changes in the sun.

“Wobbles in the orbit of Mars are the main cause of its climate change in the current era,” Oxford’s Wilson explained. (Related: “Don’t Blame Sun for Global Warming, Study Says” [September 13, 2006].)

All planets experience a few wobbles as they make their journey around the sun. Earth’s wobbles are known as Milankovitch cycles and occur on time scales of between 20,000 and 100,000 years.

These fluctuations change the tilt of Earth’s axis and its distance from the sun and are thought to be responsible for the waxing and waning of ice ages on Earth.

So the same process that can’t possibly be the reason for Earth’s warming is obviously the reason for Mar’s warming?  How do people believe these guys?  This is too much.

Electnixon, I see we have similar tastes in stories!

One sign of weakness of a theory is when you keep having to concoct new explanations every time evidence contrary to the theory is established.

So far, Michael Mann and his group simply deny that the Mars global warming data are accurate or significant.  They are referring to it as a “regional” effect.  From where I’m sitting, they’re right:  It’s likely only affecting our solar system, so that’s pretty regional on a cosmic scale.

Whoops,
Sorry dude, we must have been typing at the same time.

I agree, this story was too good not to pick up.

I think you gentlemen are on the something! Back in the fifties, nearly every sci-fi movie or story showed both Mars and Venus as perfectly habitable. Only severe climate change could have brought about the wastelands we see today!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Pluto’s hardly warmed up a bit.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

I’m sure there’s a Disney on Ice joke in there somewhere!

According to Minnie, Pluto was pretty hot. Mickey was the last to suspect.

And as far as global warming on Mars goes, I wonder how the left will blame Bush for that?

I dunno Pilg,

I hear Mickey wants a divorce from Minnie.  He was overheard shouting ”She’s fucking Goofy!

Hey, didn’t we post a lot of stuff on Coronal Mass Ejections and Solar weather as a cause of climate change sometime back?

...for great justice
