Love Means Never Having To Say You’re Resigning

Sanford backs out of promise to release travel records

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has backed out of a promise to release personal financial records proving he did not use state money for trips to see his mistress. Meanwhile, the majority of state Senate Republicans are calling for Sanford’s resignation.

A day after Sanford declared in an emotional Associated Press interview that his mistress is his ‘soul mate,’ spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor does not want to discuss personal matters in the media anymore.

The growing chorus of lawmakers who’ve publicly announced or told The Associated Press they want the philandering governor gone reached 14 Wednesday. There are 27 Republicans in the Senate - a 46-member chamber the party controls.
