Kudos to Rob

I would like to congratulate Rob on his contribution to fairness and free speech in his blog.

Name calling and personal insults aside, Rob lets everyone have their say. It’s a very hard thing to allow yourself to be constantly attacked personally and shows a strength in character and tolerance that is supposed to be prevalent but is often lacking in a free society.

Kudos.

Great as if we needed Rob’s ego to get any bigger.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Thanks for the compliment, ews.  I appreciate it.

Things get heated around here, no doubt.  I’m not even immune to it as I’m as human as the rest of you.  But ultimately, even when things devolve into a pie-throwing contest around here, everyone has their say.

In the 4+ years I’ve had this blog on the internet I’ve only banned four people, and that wasn’t for what they said but because they were being disruptive.  One kept posting porn pictures.  Another would post like 2 dozen nonsense comments in a row and wouldn’t stop despite warnings.  The other two tried to divulge personal information about other readers.

That’s it.

I am pretty sure that Rob lets us have our say in personal insults and name calling, that fat piece of monkey spunk… =) Sorry, had to add some name calling and personal insults.

SAB is the first site that I read every morning and the last one I read each night.  When Rob is ready to run for office, and I am surprised that he hasn’t run as a tribal council member at Turtle Mountain yet, I will get my check book out in a heartbeat.

Which almost never come from Rob, btw.  The truth is that his site is one of the few blogs that really deserves to be called a forum, in the full meaning of the word.

Kudos, indeed!

I’ll also voice my support and admiration for Rob Port.

I know of no other blogger that allows so much free reign and anarchy in his comments—and not only will he tolerate a dissenting opinion, he’ll give you a reader-blog of your very own to do it on.

You are a tribute to your country sir, and I’m proud to know you.

Beers on me if you ever visit the southeast.

Of all the blogs and commentary sites I go to, and I go to A LOT, sayanything is by far the most open and, dare I say, liberal in its policy concerning the free and open expression of opinions from absolutely anyone. Hell, name me a blog that encourages people with contrary views to start their own readerblog on the host’s dime.

One of the coolest things in the world is that last week I read a Reader Blog post by Creasy about the students in Minn that got suspended.  Creasy is a member of the Turtle Mountain Rez who came over here to chew Rob’s ass for his op-ed piece.  So he comes over here and we end up with a couple of posts that got like 500+ comments going back and forth about Rob being a bigot and so forth.  And at the end of it, instead of banning people (like the Tribe did), Rob tells Creasy, “If you got a problem with things, this is a forum.  Get a reader blog and tell your side.”

So a guy from a Rez that bans Rob for his comments in an op-ed, gets invited by Rob to post here.  And after the original issue dies down (several months after), he is still sticking around and contributing.  Rob could have just banned his ass and several others, closed down comments, and taking a Daily Kos type stand towards folks that disagree with him.

Say what you want about Rob (like that he’s an impotent man-boy), but that speaks volumes about him.

Having been squelched on a Canadian and a Japanese site for being too Conservative, I see a massive difference between Rob’s SAB and the others: they are Leftist and do not tolerate dissenting opinions.

As bad as the Leftards around here get, it does keep things a’ hoppin.’ I was briefly on the Ann Coulter forum and quickly became bored by the nodding-in-unison going on over there.

So not only does Rob show the positive strength of Conservative thought by entertaining Leftist commentary, he shows how ultimately we are confident in the objective truth undergirding our belief system.  I have yet to see a winning argument posited by a Leftist.  Thanks to Rob for allowing them to stay and through their chatter expose the contradictions of Socialism and its associated systems.

Move_Zig on January 15, 2008 at 02:35 am

I guess I am the lone dissenting opinion on this one. I think that there should be more bannings. Some people come here with no intention of doing anything else other than the electronic equivalent of shouting.

Many around here cheer whenever some idiot gets booted out of a political rally for shouting over everybody else. And yet the same people praise Rob for not booting out the shouters.

It doesn’t make sense.

yea. that is boring.

The difference is that when we get tired of their endless screeching we simply unsubscribe from that thread. Yes, I have called for a few people to be banned, after extended and egregious provocation, often not even directed towards me. Some people are simply trolling through to spew stupidity. They usually don’t hang around. The TMR threads are a good example. Many of the paulettes are another very good example.

Your example of a disruptive protester being removed from an event is not a good one. Here we have a mute button. And often we all pile on and smack them around. And yea, we often go overboard with that, FICA/FICO comes immediately to mind.

I like the lefties.  I like some of them Very Much.  RBB and I are blog friends.

Sometimes he calls me out when I drift into socialism which it might shock you, I am capable of.

I have this hard core genetic conservative streak with a drift of Christian Democrat German Helmut Kohl ISM in me.  I spent a lot of time in East Germany before the wall fell.  Some of that might have got to me a bit.  It wasn’t so bad.  Life was pretty orderly.

I’m of the opinion Hitler got some things right (not murdering Jews of course).

I think we must have ideals not just dogma.

So, sometimes when it gets a little heated, when it gets a little mean, I understand.  Such is the nature of discourse.

OF all the things I appreciate about SA the one thing most of all is how respectful and careful everyone is even when calling the other person a total raving idiot.  I have first hand experience in this area give and take.

The civility and inclusion is rare and appreciated.  The head bobbing monotony of far left (daily kos) and far right (coulter) blogs is not only boring but useless.

Here, if I come up with a stupid idea I might be lampooned for it but I’m heard.

Like, Oh, I don’t know, Vote for Mike Huckabee????.

ROB, you have done a good thing here.  In today’s WSJ there is an article about Blog Advertising and the money Bloggers are making.  I see some ads on SA.  Maybe a lot of ads.  I nominate Whistler to get the first ride on the SA Corporate Jet just as soon as Rob takes delivery.  Then Me tooo.

Yeah, there are ads here, but believe you me I’m not getting rich.

I find your comments about East Germany interesting, though.  You say things weren’t that bad, but that seems to contradict everything we know about the Soviet occupation of Germany.

Yea! That kinda popped right out to me, too. Over the years I have known several people and families who escaped from the Worker’s Paradise of the Democratic People’s Republic of Germany who would disagree. A couple violently.

Rob, Someday (not today) I’ll give you a look at what life was like in the late 80’s in East Germany.

I was there for a long time.

It wasn’t what you think.  I don’t know what things were like in the rest of the east block.  It just wasn’t that bad in Halle.  Berlin was pretty dicey but that wasn’t what it was like in the rest of the country.  There is a huge nostalgia in the former east Germany for those days.  They weren’t so bad.

Don’t believe everything you hear or read.  Socialism has its appeals.

But, no body in East Germany every needed a corporate jet. ;>wink)

I’m glad you are making some money on this blog.  You deserve it.  I hope it becomes a lot of money.

"late ‘80s”, you mean just before the collapse of Communism? Are you actually comparing the period 1986-1990 to the 40 years that preceded them? Is that really what you are doing? You can not possibly be serious.

Una Salus Victus Nullam Sperare Salutem

2Hotel9 on January 15, 2008 at 09:32 am

Experience verses theory.  I was there exactly during that time period.

It wasn’t that bad (in the provinces).  The cities were tough.

It was in a way (ask them) better before the wall fell.

I am serious.  I would be interested in communicating with your friends who came out and have them tell of what things were like. I will write an essay on life then and then have them comment on this.

Unless you were there you don’t know.  And, the nostalgia began within a year of the wall falling.

Line up your people, lets have a discussion.  Just not today.  I have actual work to do, I don’t have a blog ginning off millions a day like Rob does.

All escaped before 1975. You can continue to sing the praises of socialism all you want. You will be talking to yourself.
