Iraqis Reach Accomodation - US Press Misses Story

By Richard Newcomb

Has the US media turned a completely deaf ear to actual events in favor of a warped view on what they wish to occur in Iraq? It would seem so. Ever since it became apparent that the miltiary ‘surge’ strategy was succeeding in Iraq, both the media and the Democratic Party have been complaining that the poltiical benchmarks in Iraq were not being met. in particular, they castigated the Iraq civilian leadership for failing to make strides in rteaching out to the minority Sunnis and releasing political prisoners.

However, it was announced over the weekend that Iraqi leaders had reached agreement on releasing thousands of political prisoners. They also agreed to reform the law keeping many ex-Baathists out of government jobs. Since this agreement was one of the main points that the media and the Democrats in Congress have been complaining about, one would think that this news justified inclusion on the front page of American news outlets, wouldn’t one? And one would be wrong.

[...]

This raises the question- does the US media care more for helping the United States win in Iraq, no matter who is President, or are they more interested in a Democratic victory in November 2008? based on their performance so far, one would be justified in suspecting the latter.

Yet more “failure to report the bad news for the Dems"(in other words, good news for the US) from the MSM and the Dems.  Par for the course.

Comments

Isn’t is interesting that it was the MSM that first reported the story not Mr. Newcomb.  Seem your Mr. Newcomb took his story from the WaPO.  So much for your headline.

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 02:26 pm

Oh and this was not the full Parliament sort of like the Pres and the Senate and House committees agreeing on a framework for immigration reform, still has to get through the full parliament.  We saw what happened there.  Your entire premise is wrong.  Nice try.

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 02:29 pm

Anything to deflect the good news from Iraq.  Your BDS is showing, as usual.

Save America; boycott the MSM.

robert108 on August 27, 2007 at 03:30 pm

You BAS (Bush Apologist syndrome) is showing.  Your headline states that the MSM missed the story, yet the article is taken directly from the MSM namely the Washington Post.  You failed to acknowledge that yet tried to mislead in the title of the post as well as in the article itself.

Your misdirection knows now bounds.  Nice try, though.

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 03:36 pm

Yes, one service carried the story.  Where are the headlines?  Where are the major newspapers and MSM news shows on this?  Please show me where Chris Matthews is talking about this on the so-called “Hardball”.  You try to parse things, like a typical leftie.  This is a favorable story for the Bush Administration, so it will be buried as quickly as possible by the leftie propagandists.

Save America; boycott the MSM.

robert108 on August 27, 2007 at 03:48 pm

First, you write an inaccurate headline with an inaccurate supposition and when proven wrong you whine as usual. It was carried by a major newspaper.  I didn’t see your rightie news groups carrying the story, yet you remain silent about Fox, Times, etc.

As I said, BAS and you have the diseas in full bloom.  Nice try.

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 03:56 pm

There is nothing to apologize for: the Bush Administration is getting it right in Iraq, and you Defeatocrats just can’t stand it.  Without failure in Iraq, you have nothing.
Actually, Fox News discussed the subject this afternoon, so you are wrong there, too.  Of course, Fox isn’t a “rightie” news group; it’s actually balanced, unlike the MSM.

Save America; boycott the MSM.

robert108 on August 27, 2007 at 04:05 pm

It’s time to admit you have BAS.  If you think Fox is fair and balanced I have some ocean front property to sell you in North Dakota.

The fact remains that you were misleading with your headline and your article.  Since you are the king of misdirection here, keep going.

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 04:10 pm

Hint: Fox is balanced; it’s the MSM that’s terribly imbalanced.
I wrote neither the headline nor the article, so you lied about that.
Answer my questions about the rest of the MSM, if you can without embarrassing yourself.

Good news for America is bad news for the Dems.

R108 writes:

I wrote neither the headline nor the article, so you lied about that.

Obviously this is your post with your headline:  “Iraqis Reach Accommodation--US Press Misses Story”.  You can’t even keep your lies straight even when you wrote the post.  Geesh, R108, take your pills for BAS already.  You did write the headline on this blog and posted the article with your comments.  Did you forget that?

My answer to your question is that the WaPo picked up the story which until it is passed by the full parliament is not really news, now is it?  You are so desperate that you will jump on anything to support that we are winning.

The fact remains that you were misleading with your post and then denied that you even wrote it.  What color koolaid are you drinking today?

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 05:26 pm

I submitted the article as written, including the headline, but I stand by the overall truth of it. Do you have any proof of any of the other MSM outlets heralding this political progress in Iraq?  You keep lying; try the truth some time.

Since you are too dishonest to actually read the article before criticizing it, all your blather is just partisan ranting.  Here’s the truth:

The Washington Post chose to put the news on Page A9. However, they did better than the New York Times, which as of this morning had no mention of the event at all. As reported by Captain Ed Morrissey over at Captain’s Quarters, even the United Kingdom’s BBC and the Guardian managed to report the event, and neither of these media outlets is any friend either to the United States nor to the campaign in Iraq.

So, the US press only gave it a passing mention, like the article said.  You really should read things before you pretend to know anything about them.

robert108 on August 27, 2007 at 05:41 pm

You should really stop lying.  You wrote that the MSM didn’t report the story, and the WaPo did.  You said you didn’t write the headline on the post, you did.  You lied.  Quit denying it.  More misdirection on your part.  you lied and were called on it and you stick to your story.  A typical sympton of Bush apologist syndrome.

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 05:49 pm

You said you didn’t write the headline on the
post, you did.

This is just pathetic.  Follow the link and see, before you embarrass yourself any further.  The headline says “US Press Mum”, which means quiet.  They were.  There’s no hope for a pathological liar such as yourself.  You are willfully ignorant.

Save America; boycott the MSM.

robert108 on August 27, 2007 at 05:56 pm

None of your nitpicking changes the fact that this is good news, both for the Iraqi people and the American people, and you lefties just hate that.  Very revealing.

Save America; boycott the MSM.

robert108 on August 27, 2007 at 06:28 pm

my nitpicking changes.  I didn’t change anything.  You are obfuscating and outright lying and then using misdirection when called on your lying.  You are so desperate to find something, anything an Iraqi government that has let down our soldiers, has refused to do the work that needs to be done.  If this were truly a monumental step in the Iraqi government, I would think that Maliki would be having a major press conference to announce this big monumental decision.  Yet he has not done that. He has been too busy on vacation and whining about the Dems picking on him.

Perhaps he should work on putting his government back together since the majority of his cabinet has resigned and entire voting blocs have left the Parliament which doesn’t bode well for your monumental step that has just occured.  Keep drinking the koolaid though.

Puzzlefeet on August 27, 2007 at 06:59 pm

No surprise you desperately want to spin this negatively.  It’s the beginning of the end for you defeatocrats.  Good riddance.  If the Iraqi people want another govt, they can elect it.  I know the “Democratic” Party isn’t democratic at all, and now you are all revealing that for the voters to see.  Good going!

What’s bad for America is good for you.  Shame on you!

This is the second story today where the basis is the MSM where you have complained that the MSM isn’t covering.

Are you a total moron?

Lestat on August 27, 2007 at 10:07 pm

Shame on me?  That is just laughable.  You post an article about the MSM not covering a big story when the basis of the entire article is from the MSM, namely the Washington Post.  You complain about the MSM but you used a WaPo to show just the opposite.

You have no credibility and you are a liar.

Puzzlefeet on August 28, 2007 at 04:05 am

You just can’t handle the good news from Iraq, and so are desperately looking for some way to spin it into something negative.  Typical leftie.

What’s good for America is bad for the lefties.

Guess you lefties didn’t even read the article before you started with your whining.

Good news from Iraq is bad news for the lefties.

robert108 on August 28, 2007 at 06:06 am

Actually I did read the article; once again you lie.  obviously you don’t understand government.  It wasn’t passed by the entire Iraqi Parliament. It was an agreement between the leaders just like there was an agreement between Bush and Reid and McConnell on immigration.  We saw what happened there.

The fact remains that you got the story from the MSM and continue to deny that the MSM reported on the story.  Perhaps you should have read where the story emanated from before you copied it here. Such a liar, but that is what righties do.  It’s all they have.

Puzzlefeet on August 28, 2007 at 06:10 am

Good news from Iraq is bad news for the lefties.  You just can’t handle your main issue crumbling before your eyes.  Attacking me won’t change reality.

If this were the big story you are making it out to be why isn’t Tony Snow holding a press conference.  Why isn’t Bush holding a press conference to announce the big news?  Because it isn’t the big deal you are praying for. But righties lie that’s all they have.

Puzzlefeet on August 28, 2007 at 10:20 am

And nothing but the truth passes your leftist lips. /sarc

Puzzlefeet on August 28, 2007 at 10:45 am

P: You just can’t deal with the good news from Iraq, and try to distract from it with your usual leftie spin.  Won’t work.  I feel sorry for you; all your lies are coming home to roost.  The last thing you want is military and political success in Iraq.

Save America; boycott the MSM.

robert108 on August 28, 2007 at 03:02 pm

Once again, you are working hard at misdirection.  You claimed the MSM didn’t cover the story yet you got the story through the MSM.  You claim this shows that there is good news.  So where is Bush/Snow, Petraeus/Gates/Romney/Giuilani/Thompson et al?  Hmm… the silence is defeaning.  Righties like you r108 lie, it’s all you have.

Puzzlefeet on August 28, 2007 at 05:18 pm

Well, try to spin it into bad news, then.  I notice the gay Republican is getting 100x the coverage this story is getting, so I was right.  I’m also right about you consistently rooting against American and Iraqi interests, and all for your own political gain.  Shame on you!

Save America; boycott the MSM.

robert108 on August 28, 2007 at 09:40 pm

let’s see, R108, a sitting Senator tries to pick up a cop in an airport bathroom, pleads guilty, calls a press conference to declare he is not gay and the press shouldn’t cover it.

Why aren’t you calling your rightie friends in the White House and asking them why they are not calling for a press conference announcing this grand development in Iraq.  I’m sure they agree with you that this should be touted from the mount and just didn’t see the story in the WaPo. Or perhaps, Ambassador Crocker has been so busy with other things in Iraq that he missed this earthshattering news as well.

Don’t you think you should attack these guys since they missed your earthshattering news as well. Or does Bush/Crocker et al wait for the press to tell them great stuff is happening in Iraq.  Hm.....

Puzzlefeet on August 29, 2007 at 04:54 am

Oh, yea, I forgot, righties like you lie, it’s all you have.

Puzzlefeet on August 29, 2007 at 04:55 am

Lefties like you are redundant, that’s all you have.

docdave on August 29, 2007 at 05:03 am

P: I’ll leave the manipulation of the Press to you lefties.  It’s their job to report the news, and they can’t stand that their Iraq issue is going away, crumbling right in front of them.  Like you, they are going to spin, lie and distract to keep this news from the American people.  Shame on you!

Since the SENATOR called a press conference.

Quit dodging P’s question, why aren’t you blaming Bush/Snow, Petraeus/Gates/Romney/Giuilani/Thompson et al for not bullhorning this HUGE DEVELOPMENT in Iraq.

Man up pal and answer.  Quit running like a little girl.

I already answered it, you just don’t like my answer.  I’m not responsible for your emotional needs.

You didn’t answer jack.

It’s the job of the news media to report the news.

Then your boy Bush needs to have some business sense knocked into him for paying a press secretary who does nothing - TONY SNOW.

His job is in his title....it is his job to report.

His job title is White House Press Secretary, which means he picks which “reporters” get to ask questions, and sometimes speaks for the President.  His job isn’t to report the news.

It’s the job of the media to report the news.
I’ll keep saying it until it sinks into your partisan skull.
You want to shift the blame off to anyone but those at fault, and you just can’t stand it that things are going well in Iraq, both militarily and politically; it’s your worst nightmare.  Sweet dreams.

You like to lie don’t you.  I have seen him many times giving interviews holding PRESS CONFERENCES etc… If he hasn’t mentioned it..IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL.  That is why you haven’t heard anything about the tid bit of news you thing is a huge thing.

dallas on August 29, 2007 at 03:19 pm

Wrong.  It’s because the news media is not reporting it thoroughly, because it’s bad news for the Defeatocrats.

Wrong again.  His job is to do what the President wants him to do, it’s not to report the news...that’s the job of the news media, and they dropped the ball on this one in favor of gay smear.  Not their proudest moment.
