Iraq Violence at 4-year Low

Rick Moran

According to the US military, attacks against coalition forces and Iraqi civilians dropped to just 300 last week compared to 1600 a week last June. This represents the lowest number of attacks in that country in 4 years:

The announcement appeared aimed at allaying fears that an uprising by militiamen loyal to radical Shiite Muslim cleric Muqtada Sadr could unravel security gains since 28,500 additional American troops were deployed in Iraq in a buildup that reached its height in June.

Navy Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll, a military spokesman, credited the decrease to a series of operations launched by the Iraqi government in the last two months to extend control over parts of the country that have been under the sway of armed Sunni Arab and Shiite militants. They include crackdowns in the southern oil hub of Basra, the northern city of Mosul and Baghdad’s Sadr City district.

[...]

There is also an offensive going on in Mosul against al-Qaeda that so far has netted more than 1,000 prisoners although it appears many fighters got away before the door was closed. Violence in Mosul has also diminished.

More good news from Iraq that won’t be publicized very much.  The reason: It’s bad news for the Dems.

But, Harry Reid said we have lost the war in Iraq. Who am I to believe, the people serving in Iraq or an extreme Left Wing old fart? Hard choice, heh?

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

Wasn’t a defeat for American Arms in Iraq one of the democRATs policy planks last time around?

Not bad for a RINO president!  Let’s have another one!  smile

One who thinks that tax rate cuts benefited the “rich”?  No, thanks!

r108:  Oh, lighten up.  He voted to extend the tax-cuts.

He voted to extend the tax-cuts.

He responded to pressure, and promises to extend the tax rate cuts, but who knows what he will do when he gets the power he wants?  I don’t think he will be answerable to anyone.  He’s a self-proclaimed “maverick"(loose cannon).  He wants to hire Dems in his administration, and promises to “reach across the aisle”.  Haven’t you noticed that as the Republican Party drifts to the Left, we lose elections?  Wake up!

Drift or not, we’re losing elections all over the place.  We cannot afford to lose this one!

McCain may be a maverick, but Obama isn’t! He is 100% dyed-in-the-wool liberal.

Still pushing the false dichotomy, I see.  Neither one deserves my vote.

We will keep losing elections if we keep going Left.  You just don’t get it.

Robert108:  Since the democrats have been in control of congress since 1934 - except for the 1994 - 2006 period - your mantra that a leftward drift is costing us elections falls flat on it’s face.

You just don’t get it.  But then, maybe you don’t want to.

pp: You can’t be serious.  The Republican Party is in the process of losing its soul, and McCain is leading the parade.  We can’t “out-leftie” the lefties, but we have no leadership standing up for the real heart and soul of the Republican Party, the part that differentiates us from the Dems - conservatism; the embracing of the founding principles of the United States.  You know, that “Constitution” thing?  Federalism, limited govt, low taxes, individual independence, keeping govt out of peoples’ lives?  I hope you remember that stuff, because that’s what makes us Republicans instead of Dems.  Otherwise, what’s the difference?

BTW, your stats are wrong; the Dems controlled the House from 1954-1994.  What Newt did was to nationalize the Congressional elections, make them about principles rather than payoffs, which, frankly, the Dems are much better at doing than we are.
We win on the issues, and we lose when we pander.

Neither one deserves my vote.

So you’re staying home on elction day?  That should help resolve everything.

You don’t have to be a moron to be a liberal Democrat but it sure helps.

So you’re staying home on elction day?

I’m voting for everything but President.  Haven’t I said a few times that we need to take Congress to stop either of the lefties?  I can’t vote for either one, because I have a conscience.
