Iran (re)launches it’s ‘Space programme’

Ballistic missile programme more like.

The Iranians insist that their space programme is entirely peaceful and is just a reaction to the Western dominance of space exploration. This is their second rocket launch, with the first taking place last February. They intend to launch their first satellite in May or June.

The US administration deemed this turn of events as ‘unfortunate’.

Sean McCormack of the State Department said:

“The kinds of technologies and capabilities that are needed in order to launch ... a space vehicle for orbit are the same kinds of capabilities and technologies that one would employ for long-range ballistic missiles,”
[...]
“And of course, the UN Security Council and other members of the international system have expressed their deep concern about Iran’s continuing development of medium- and long-range ballistic missiles,”
[...]
“The reason for that concern is tied to their ... continued search to perfect enrichment of uranium, which can, of course, be used in a nuclear weapon,”

ENGINEERING AND SCIENCE ARE INCOMPATIBLE WITH RELIGIOUS FANATICISM; ARE THE DARKAGES OF IRAN NOW GIVING WAY TO A RENAISSANCE IN THE ARTS AND SCIENCES

Caps off, Jeugenen. It is awfully rude to shout.

Does no one recognize that missile? Looks like the upgraded RT-23/SS-24. Also bears a resemblance to R-36/SS-9 and R-36M/SS-18 liquid propellant poles. Hate to be the “astronaut” riding that!

Here is a link to a comparative graphic. I tried to just put it in the comment, didn’t work.

At least we know that the Russians will be keeping an extra beady eye on the uranium they have provided to Iran.

If I’m not mistaken Iran is to receive another shipment of fuel rods on St Valentine’s Day. Why do they need centrifuges? I forget.

One of the milblogs I frequent is making the call and saying their launch was a modified SS-18, and that the placing of low orbit satellites is the primary purpose, not permanent, high orbit runs. Low orbit is the method for attaining the necessary level of operational capability of hitting targets. Their embrace of technology as a means to achieve the goals of the mullahs is rather transparent.
