Iran Is Making The Arab States Nervous
This could be the best news we’ve had in a while:
The mostly Sunni Arab Middle East appears to be waking up to the threat posed by Shiite dominated Iran and it’s proxy, Hezbollah. The Sunnis are becoming alarmed at the increasingly bold and open moves on the part of Syrian and Iranian backed Hizbollah to destabilize the Lebanese government. Egypt’s President Mubarak said that many of the Arab nations were ready to intervene and he publicly denounced Hezbollah:
"Time is running out for Hizbullah and Aoun. The resentment towards them and their supporters is reaching dangerous levels. There have been many spontaneous protests in several Lebanese cities, and it is clear that there are people who will not sit and watch the militia and its Christian cover besieging their government and paralyzing the country.
Unless they plan on a military coup, I don’t see how they will succeed in toppling the government, which is enjoying the support of parliament, not to mention most of the world.
If they don’t end their occupation of downtown Beirut soon, civil war will come knocking."
Wow. Hot Air has more on that. http://hotair.com/
Also, Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah's spokesman this week said that Saudi would intervene in Iraq should the Iran attempt to take over. This from the Asia Times:
'Saudi Arabia’s quasi-official threat of intervention in Iraq should be read in this light. On November 28, a Saudi strategic adviser, Nawaf Obaid, warned in the Washington Post of “massive Saudi intervention to stop Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias from butchering Iraqi Sunnis”, if need be. “To be sure, Saudi engagement in Iraq carries great risks - it could spark a regional war,” Obaid added. “So be it: the consequences of inaction are far worse.” I do not mean to deprecate Saudi concern for the welfare of Sunnis, but the kingdom faces an existential threat." http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/HL05Ak04.html
Iran is pushing hard to establish itself as the power to be dealt with in the Middle East and they’re making some people very nervous by doing so. Their blatant attempts to destabilize the governments of Lebanon and Iraq combined with their continued nuclear bluster may be waking the Arab nations up to the genuine threat they pose. Iranian dominance will equal the end to their governments for the most part, and they know it.
Iran may become its own worst enemy. They could put themselves in check and we won't have to lift a finger. Their arrogance and over-estimation of their power will do it for us. Let’s hope so.
