Interesting European Union Trends
When major European Union countries opt out of the Euro you’d think that would be something like New York or North Dakota opting out of the Dollar. EU unity would gain if high-profile members like Denmark, Sweden and Britain finally adopted the Euro. Those countries are considering another referendum on the matter soon and polls suggest positive results for the currency.
Also, at a time when the ongoing controversy regarding the adoption of the EU’s constitution is raising questions about Britain’s objections, it is interesting to note that former UK prime minister Tony Blair — who exemplifies a country whose citizens have thus far rejected the Euro, whose leader has been reluctant to support other core EU projects, and who was personally behind the unpopular war in Iraq to boot — is taking a shot at becoming the EU’s new president. But, even with support from France’s Sarkozy, a major player in the union, Blair is regarded by some as an “outsider” for the post and could have much going against him when the EU chooses its president later this year.
