I Would Not Follow Him

"I like McCain. I respect McCain. But I am a little worried by his knee-jerk response factor," said retired Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, who was in charge of training the Iraqi military from 2003 to 2004 and is now campaigning for Clinton. "I think it is a little scary. I think this guy's first reactions are not necessarily the best reactions. I believe that he acts on impulse."

"I studied leadership for a long time during 32 years in the military," said retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, a one-time Republican who is supporting Obama. "It is all about character. Who can motivate willing followers? Who has the vision? Who can inspire people?" Gration asked. "I have tremendous respect for John McCain, but I would not follow him."

"One of the things the senior military would like to see when they go visit the president is a kind of consistency, a kind of reliability," explained retired Gen. Merrill McPeak, a former Republican, former chief of staff of the Air Force and former fighter pilot who flew 285 combat missions. McPeak said his perception is that Obama is "not that up when he is up and not that down when he is down. He is kind of a steady Eddie. This is a very important feature," McPeak said. On the other hand, he said, "McCain has got a reputation for being a little volatile." McPeak is campaigning for Obama.

McCain's outbursts have only occasionally been captured by the press. The most recent episode appeared to have occurred last May, when McCain was embroiled in immigration reform negotiations with Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. Cornyn accused McCain of "parachuting" in on the negotiations. During the heated exchange that followed, McCain screamed "Fuck you!" at Cornyn, according to news reports at the time. McCain later apologized.

Real Americans.

Like Barack Obama’s Pastor? What was it he said? Oh, that’s right: GOD DAMN AMERICA, the US of KKKA.

“Real Americans”, alright.

Have fun stumping for your racist anti-American candidate. Real Americans aren’t buying it.

Obama also enjoys the support of domestic terrorists.

As well as foreign ones.

Think that “real Americans” care about these endorsements, bob?

Try not to choke on the irony as you ignore this ugly reality about your ugly candidate.

Why is it ok for Republicans to insult our Military Majors when they support Democrats and not refer to them as real Americans?

Strange that.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain has enjoyed strong support from a lobbyist group that backs the Kosovo Liberation Army despite allegations the KLA is a Muslim terrorist group with ties to criminal drug networks and al-Qaida.

Oh boiyyy......facts like that would have normal people smashing their hypocritical head against a wall.  I am sure Likwid will find some illogical way to back-flip his way out of that one.

Nicely done RBB.  Couldn’t have set that one up any better myself.

And in case anyone missed it.  I will sum it up fer ya.

RBB has just demonstrated why half of your arguments against him, are meaningless twaddle.  And if you think it isn’t, then you boy McCain is in just as deep.

But what was that Likwid was saying about adults, and how adults usually view things?

"realitybased"bob - Think that “real Americans” care about these endorsements, Lik?

Doubt it. The situation there is a bit more hairy than Weather Underground and Hamas terrorists. Most Americans know where they stand with the those groups. The KLA? Not so much.

In any regard, I don’t buy your supposition that a mark of a “real American” is to care about who endorses whom. Such things can be interesting to note, to be sure, and they can also inform us a bit on the qualities the candidate in question, but they tell us nothing when partisans such as yourself pick the needles out of the haystacks.

eunichized the beardless catamite offers:

Why is it ok for Republicans1 to insult our Military Majors2 when they support Democrats and not refer to them as real3 Americans?

Strange that.

1Which “Republican” would that be?

2Which Army/Marine/Air Force O-4 (Major) is being insulted and in what way?

3Who has referred to any such member of the armed forces as “unreal”?

As for my “low protein” comment (as to awards and qualifications), ask your admirable golfing buddies to explain it to you (since you obviously have no clue in this, as in most, matters). Failing that, you can always deliver a surf report…

since rbb’s post is old news, second-person heresay and not even particularly urgent… why is every body here so fiercely kicking around such a small ball?

Here is something that might affect us substantially.

(This part cross-posted from my thread Soviets Firing SS-21s)

Col. Gardiner (USAF, ret. ) discusses the significance of the introduction of the SS-21’s into the theatre.

29m69mv.jpg

Gardiner notes that Soviet doctrine with regard to response to American precision weapons is for them to use tactical nuclear weapons.  That’s how they train in their maneuvers.

Relevant to this thread

The Colonel discusses McCain’s responses to the Soviet incursion into Georgia and condemned them. Listen to this streaming video.  It’s kind of long but addresses the issue of how McCain might (mis)handle a tete-a-tete with Russia.

Given the Colonel’s analysis, we may be headed into another sort of Cuban Missile Crisis, but the difference is that the parties are completely underestimating the reactions of the other and the potential to go nuclear is increasing.  The Soviet introduction of SS-21’s into the theatre of operations combined with an American unawareness of the portent of their presence vis-a-vis any deployment of precision weapons may prove to be a volatile combination.

Remember, WWI was started off as a small, regional conflict.  I don’t think any of the General Staffs contemplated a World War as a consequence of their actions.

His take is that Soviets are expecting us, or at least are preparing for, our intervention by the use of precision weapons.  As the SS-21 is capable of both conventional and WMD-type warheads, this may be the reason they have been brought in.

QUESTION #1:

Are we ready to go nuclear with the Soviets?

QUESTION #2

Are they ready to go nuclear with us?

...for great justice

Are we supposed to be frightened by a pic of Robert Oppenheimer, boob?
