Who Owns Our Debt

On October 11, 2006, our friend the Whistler posted a thread titled: “Who Owns Our Debt.”http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/entry/who_owns_our_debt/
At the time Whistler said, accurately I may add, that the Chinese held $332 Billion dollars of our debt.
Well just immagine what a difference two years make. As of October 2008 we owe the Chinese $652.9billion dollars. At that time according to Mr. Whistler the total amount held by foreigners was $2.1 Trillion.
Two years later it is $3042.7 trillion.
Almost a trillion more.
Is this a cause for worry?
What are your thoughts?
