How city councils ought to stop war
No, not by meaningless confrontations with the President, trying to usurp his lawful powers, but by understand what really causes war. What causes war (and crime for that matter) it the perception that the use of force is less costly than obtaining desired ends lawfully.
Now how can, say, the cities of Boulder and Beserkeley strike a real blow against war? It’s simple. Real simple.
Use city government to perform the rightful functions of city government, and refuse to use it for other functions.
Filling potholes, sewer service and roads? You bet. Diversity, redevelopment, and attacking other branches of government? No way.
It’s pretty simple, actually; when cities ignore their proper bounds and try to provide goods that are not truly public goods, there is strife. When they adhere to their natural limitations, there is (relative) peace.
Reserve your ski pass to Hell for when the city councils of Boulder and Beserkeley realize this!
