Gunther, Gone but never forgotten.

Free Image Hosting at allyoucanupload.com” /> We will be a long time finding a dog to match Gunther. She was much too smart for her own good, thankfully, agressive with that just so edge of control. She was an excellent judge of character, if she did not like you then off the property you went, whole skinned or bleeding, it was entirely your choice.

There were times I seriously did not like her, overall it balanced out.  She is, and will be, missed.

I had a cat named Gunther.  I am holding Gunther’s mother, Lolita, as I type.  She looks like the perfect dog and I am sure she had a wonderful life and misses you as much as you miss her.

Although Gunther likely would have used me as a chew toy, I too am sorry to hear of her departure.

Hotel…

My sincere condolences. Dogs can be very much a part of a family and the loss of one can sting.

Thanks, guys. In general she liked people, but when she did not, she really did not. Boy is 11, she was one of those constants in life that kids take for granted. We had a good talk about her and dying this afternoon.

He is too young to really remember either of his grandfathers passing, though 2 of my friends died recently and he has an understanding of it, as much as an 11 yearold has.

I’m sorry hotel. Sounds like Gunther took pride in keeping order. My last cat died last Friday. She was 19. She had some IV fluids at the docs like two weeks ago, came home on a sunny day, caught some rays, went out into the field, and (with a ‘death yeowl’ or two) caught two rodents in under half an hour. She died 10 days later. I only hope I can have that much grace when I am 10 days from buying the farm.

I’m sorry to hear of your loss.

2h9:  Gunther was a pretty dog.  I hope your wife is feeling better. How did she get the name Gunther?

Carol on November 8, 2006 at 11:41 am

We got her at 5 weeks old, every time you picked her up she would grunt. I wanted to name her Grunt. Wifey would not hear of that. So we settled on Gunther.

And yes, I am a believer in atypical names for pets, especially large, black&tan Shepard/mix dogs. You break in my house you ain’t gonna grab a handle on my dogs, what you will get is 80-90 lbs of teeth and muscle grabbing a handle on you.

Already had several friends offering pups, Wifey ain’t ready, too soon yet. Though we like to take our animals young. I have no problem with bottle nursing, it bonds them to you. Though that is also part of what makes it so hard to let them go.

Thats life.

When my son’s beloved parakeet died when he was in first grade, his teacher recommended a book about a boy whose pet dies so he makes a list of 10 good things about the pet.  I forgot the clever ending, but making a list of a certain number puts a process and a end point so gives permission to dwell on what is missed but then closure to that phase.  Or some such psychobabble.  But it helped, then and again when his grandpa died a few months later.  So maybe your boy could make a list of 10 good things about the dog.  Oh who am I kidding, even an adult could benfit from making a list of 10 good things about someone they miss.  COme to think of it, maybe we should make that list about important people BEFORE they are gone.
