Global Warming Update

Killington, Vermont - Noon on Saturday. That is not manmade snow either. The last two thurs/fris up there have yielded 24” and 18” respectively. Currently that area is about 8” into a 30” dump scheduled to end sometime tomorrow. The skiing on Saturday was f**king brilliant. The only thing like this I can remember recently was 2001 when that area got approx 48” during the first week of April. Anyone on the eastern seaboard who skis - Monday/Tuesday might be a sweet time to come down with a ‘48 hour flu’. Wink wink.

Vermont is very far from socialist. Before you shoot off at the mouth why don’t poke around a little. Vermont has no conceal and carry permits. Anyone can conceal and carry an unregistered gun. As it should be. We have a republican governor. Many of the state level politicians are republican. While it is a socially liberal or very tolerant state, it is a financially responsible state. More than I can say for a few others. Vermont pays out money to red states with fat, lazy people… so watch your fucking mouth. In addition, as far as molesting constitutions goes, Vermont’s predates this countries and is arguably still the most ‘preserved’. We voted for Reagan twice and Bush Sr. Howard Dean and Bernie Sanders are both New Yorkers. I didn’t post this image so you could snipe at my home state.

What state are you from judgmental prick?

Which views make you say that? I am against gun control, big government, financial irresponsibility, property redistribution, preferential treatment for ‘cultural groups’, constitutional abuse, nanny state tactics, market regulation… and so on. That makes me a leftist? Please, do explain.

Had to pick him up at the Rutland hospital emergency room last year after getting 17 stitches from a snow board edge.

I, believe it or not, have been skiing since I was three and I have yet to break or cut myself as a result. The 00-01 season I skiied 180+ days… at least one run on each of those days. A lot of early morning runs or lunch break runs.  Now I have to ski with half my brain tied behind my back to make it fair to whoever I am skiing with.

Sparkie Arbuckle on April 16, 2007 at 09:25 am

Two words for you Sparkie.

FUCK YOU! from http://www.ski-blog.com

You know, as long as we are telling you how we really feel, how about this for you:

You son of a bitch.  It is April and my home mountain IN UTAH where we get so much snow, we barely have to bribe the IOC to hold the Olympics, got a whopping 220” of snow all year.

Oh, yeah, and whatever whatever about you being a Liberal blah blah blah… that too.  But REALLY FUCK YOU! for stealing my snow.

But unFuck You! for being a skier.  I take back all the bad things I ever said about you.  If you were a Snowboarder, I would give you a double dose of profanity, but much love for the skiing bruthas that drink quarter beers by the IGA.  Now, I gotta offer to buy you one and spend a day getting face shots of pow.

Justin...Do you know where St. Geotge Utah is? I went to the greatest health spa called green valley...Oh my heck! (that is a St. George saying.)

Zsa Zsa on April 16, 2007 at 10:17 am

Damn.  My place is just outside of Cedar which is 45 minutes north of there.  St. George has the Costco that we always stop at for Groceries.

Hey Spark, sorry to plagarize, but I gave you credit unlike the NYT when Jason Blaire kepts stealing all my good stuff:

Posted the following at my site.

Justin B. on April 16, 2007 at 10:19 am

How is it that you get to live in my two favorite spots on earth? Oh My Heck! Ha…

Zsa Zsa on April 16, 2007 at 10:24 am

St George is like 30 minutes from Colorado City-Hildale which is the polygamy capitol of the world.

So we are in Costco with a couple of friends and we see these four women in full length ankle dresses with cuffs that go down to the wrists.  All have three little munchkins each under the age of three in their baskets and they are collectively shopping.

I have two kids from Wickenburg that are early 20’s going up to my place and we are shopping.  I tell them, this is a polygamous family and it literally blows their mind.  They keep asking me how I know.

Live up there sometime.  It is crazy.  No problem at all with their lifestyle and if God tells them to share one dude between like ten women, so be it.  As long as those women aren’t 15 and consent, none of my business.  But as you know, I own a house in Arizona and one in Utah and I am trying to explain to the girl at the Utah DMV that I don’t get my mail at a Utah address despite living there part of the year (for tuition purposes when I get my MBA) and she doesn’t get it.  I proceed to tell her that I have one house in Utah and one in Arizona.  Still no clue.  Then I tell her one place is in Colorado City where my wife lives and the other is in Hildale where my wife lives.  She got white.  I mean like frazzled and white.  It was classic.  My little brother was with me and he almost lost it, but kept a straight face long enough for us to both roll laughing simultaneously.

Justin B. on April 16, 2007 at 10:25 am

ZZ,

This is my second place in Brian Head.  We have a condo up there that is a shade under 800 sq. ft. right by the base area of the ski resort.  I spend most of the winter that and we are about a mile north of Cedar Breaks National Monument and Cedar Breaks is in the same mountain range between I-15 and US-89 that Zion is.  We are about 10 miles as the crow flies north of Zion.

Justin
Here’s one from christmas eve 2005. I snapped this at the top of the former Poma line at Pico Mtn. This sucker is steep. This is a genuine, out of bounds, back east, ski-trashing, person-eating trail. Notice the underbrush. Right where the steep flattens out one can make a left into those woods and just cruise. Bitchin glades.

Justin...That is too dad gum funny! There are alot of unusual “couples”??? Or shall I say families out that way.  St. George is so beautiful & the people are awesome. You need to go visit Green Valley Spa!!!

Zsa Zsa on April 16, 2007 at 10:52 am

Brian Head got the damned bark beetles in the 80’s and it destroyed all the trees.  Hardly any pine left, just a bunch of Aspen which does no good to glade ski in.  I want pine branches whipping my face and torso that are so heavy with snow that you are scared they will break.  Aspen just ain’t the same.  Glade skiing is the best.

BTW, Aspen trees do absolutely nothing to block the wind either, so they have to close the lifts on the best powder days with free refills because the wind is rocking the lifts, plus most of the snow ends up in Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico…

Justin B. on April 16, 2007 at 10:53 am

Every day either the SLC Tribune, Arizona Republic, or Deseret News has a story about CO City or Hildale.

My only beef is that if Gays should be able to marry, so should polygamists.  My real issue is that there is no stable system of property rights to protect the “spiritual wives” because our laws do not recognize their marriage.  Most of these women are not educated and are like puppies raised indoors.  If they ever did want to leave, they lack the skills to survive.

Hence my support for a contractual status such as civil unions, but it needs to be extended to polygamist couples too.  Not to get off topic, but welcome to Southern Utah.  Best snow on earth, Draconian liquor laws, and polygamists.

Justin B. on April 16, 2007 at 10:58 am

Justin...That is a NICE place! Do you go very often?

Zsa Zsa on April 16, 2007 at 10:59 am

Oh, yeah, and some of the absolute nicest people on the planet.  Almost forgot.

I really hate SLC Mormons because there is something about Salt Lake that makes people there think they are more holy than everywhere else, but Southern Utah is just plain different.  I think it has something to do with living in the city up there.

Not that I have a problem with Mormons at all since our families are about as Mormon as you could come, but there is a critical mass that once you reach a certain percentage of the population that is homogenously Mormon, it becomes almost unbearable.  You can never find a Starbucks and if you did find one, it would be closed on Sunday…

Justin B. on April 16, 2007 at 11:02 am

Spend about 50% of the winter there.  This winter there hasn’t been much snow, so less this winter than usual.  But we have been remodeling the place and did a complete demo down to the studs.  We are finally done, so we try to go at least once or twice a month to ski and at least a couple times over the summer.

Justin B. on April 16, 2007 at 11:03 am

Justin
My ski buddies and I all have gate guards on our poles… not for gates, but for underbrush. God bless thick woods… it slows ya down. I couple years ago I was out on one of these type of days at Mad River Glen (which has some of the most absurd terrain I have seen on the continent, bans snowboarders, and never grooms - highly recommended when there is lots of real snow falling) and I fell into a hole at the bottom of a pine tree like 5 to 6 feet deep. I had to climb up the tree and fling myself out to escape the trap. BTW, that flick from xmas eve was taken at the red X, looking down along that yellow dotted line:

Damn, the trip is too rich for my blood.  Otherwise, I’d have already ordered my Me-ticket and been on the plane.  I made it there in 2004.  Gonna’ have to wait until later to go again.  My son beefed it bigtime on a run just past Superstar and Ovation, think it was called, “Frenzy”.  Passers-by couldn’t lend a hand without going into the woods.  Ha, dad had to rescue him, again!  Sparky, been to Pepino’s Italian Restaurant?  Have a “steak a-la-Pepino” sometime.

i’ve been to all those restaurants. i grew up 15 min from killington. to either side of superstar and ovation are skylark, bittersweey, julio, and the pictured trail, ‘anarchy’.

Sparkie Arbuckle on April 16, 2007 at 03:14 pm

Justin,

It serves you right not getting any snow, since out there in the land of tall mountains and powder snow, it’s usually waist-deep and you only have to worry about leaning into it.  Not having to keep sharpening your edges to deal with East coast boiler plate.

You’ll just have to hit the East for now or learn to use these.

Spark, you are one very politically confused (judging from your avatar) sonofabitch.  (Another meaning for PC ?)

Bottom line - which Party do you vote for?

If you vote for Dems, you’re getting Gun (People) Control.  If you vote for those Wascally Wepublicans you’re voting for Eat the Poor.

which Party do you vote for?

the ‘legalize marijuana now’ party. i vote a split ticket. usually for libertarians and Liberty Union candidates. Wikipedia is incorrect here:

In the United States there is the US Marijuana Party with local chapters in 29 states. There are also state-level parties, none of its representatives has actually run for office.

Those people run for office all the time in Vermont. We also have the Liberty Union Party up there - I like them bacause they are anti-clean lawn laws. One should be able to have as many junked ‘Chevettes’ in the front yard as they want.

Sparkie Arbuckle on April 18, 2007 at 08:51 am

I would vote for Libertarian Candidates if they weren’t such nutjobs.  If the LP was run by the folks at the CATO institute, not a bunch of seperatist nutjobs that speak like they need to increase their medication from the Psychiatrist.  The LP’s biggest problem is lack of suitable candidates that are articulate and are folks that are educated and mainstream enough to govern.  Especially for local offices.  They show up at debates (when invited) and spout of kookie anti-government shit that is almost as whacked out as the Citizens for 9-11 Truth or Code Pink.

I view the LP as a critical voice that balances out the Religious Right within the Republican Party.  Just like the Dems view (wait, should view) the Nutroots as fringe radicals, I like a lot of the ideas from the LP, but it is not a party that I would support governing.  Organizations like Heritage and Cato are critical, and Milton Friedman and the economic voices of the LP are right on.

If they just weren’t borderline anarchists, or at very least if they didn’t keep trotting out folks that are and letting them run as LP candidates.

Justin B. on April 18, 2007 at 09:35 am

Justin
Borderline anarchy is consistent with greater freedom. It ain’t ‘free’… sacrifices must be made. Just not constitutional rights sacrifices.
