Friday Night Open Thread, Or Friday Night Flame War

This seemed to be pretty popular last week, so let’s try it again. Use this thread to discuss what’s on your mind that hasn’t fit elsewhere this week. Or use it to flame someone you disagree with.... That seemed to be really popular last week.

So grab a cold one, or burn a fatty and go to town.

Well, don’t actually “go” to town after having a couple of cold ones or burning a fatty, I meant that figuratively.

Comments

currently listening to REO Speedwagon, You Get What You Play For album, Riding The Storm out. Samuel Adams stopped by with Summer Ale.

Spartacus,
It appears the, “flamers” are looking at binding boobs on another thread.(Should that be, “flamethrowers”?  I’m not sure after the Devil in Miss Jones movies).  Tsk. Tsk.
That is too bad, this could get interesting.  I wish I could stick around, but the races are starting soon.  Brewskis and fast cars.  Oh boy!  I’ll pass on the fatties, though.

Flame anyone?

I chose the MPAA as the group of the week that can kiss my ass.

MPAA: your movies generally suck, your scare tactics do not work, your harassment is borderline creepy, your monkey in the middle game with the cable company is just sad, and the $150,000 dollar fine per movie shared is downright ludicrous.

Closing shot for the MPAA: uh, eat a dick and go bug some hapless computer printer.

Well since you asked for a flame, wet shoes stink.

Still listening to Bob Seger ‘Live’ Bullet, “Get Out Of Denver”, I think BTO, “Not Fragile” will be next.

^No, I was mistaken. Next was SRV, “Soul To Soul” Album. I had to put a stop to that before the ear worm infestation occurred. Now on to BTO, “Not Fragile”.

Now listening to Ramstein, Sensucht (sp?), I’d rather deal with the ear worms from Stevie Ray Vaughns Soul to Soul album than that German crap.

Lately I’ve found myself listening to a lot of Motorhead.  And The Ramones.

If you guys like sharing what music you’re listening to, check out Last.fm.  That’s where I get the banner in my signature from showing my last listened to songs.

It’s pretty cool.  Keeps track of the music you play on your computer and your mp3 player.

Wow. That site is effing miraculous. Music, music, music.

My beef: The governor of Louisiana who signed a Taliban-style education law.

The text of the LSEA suggests that it’s intended to foster critical thinking, calling on the state Board of Education to “assist teachers, principals, and other school administrators to create and foster an environment within public elementary and secondary schools that promotes critical thinking skills, logical analysis, and open and objective discussion of scientific theories.” Unfortunately, it’s remarkably selective in its suggestion of topics that need critical thinking, as it cites scientific subjects “including, but not limited to, evolution, the origins of life, global warming, and human cloning.”

Oddly, the last item on the list is not the subject of any scientific theory; the remainder are notable for being topics that are the focus of frequent political controversies rather than scientific ones.

The bill has been opposed by every scientific society that has voiced a position on it

In other news, I saw this woman speak the other day. She’s young, smart, articulate, and she taught monkeys how to ‘purchase’ or ‘trade’. Literally. I saw footage of these guys ‘buying’ with the chips they were taught to trade with. Get this. The ‘risk bias’ associated with gains and loses that one finds in humans is also found in those little furry monkeys. Click the link and at least read the abstract. Bio-Evolutionary-Economics/Epistemology.  Hold onto your hat! A 35 million year old bias? Amazing stuff if you ask me. That paper is a must read for anyone interested in economics, risk assessment, evolution, knowledge and biasing, and countless other topics.

Take that Louisiana.

Speaking of monkeys....having a little trouble keeping up with the subject of the thread there, Spark?

Have a banana. They’re high in potassium. That might help.

this is the open thread.

i am bitching. and i provided a nice, interesting, econ-related evolutionary refutation of the Louisiana cocksmooch governor and his Taliban backers.
