Freedom of Religion - Only at home!

Once again into the breach dear friends, that breach being in the Bill Of Rights. People do not want to accept the idea that the Bill of Rights were meant to be inviolable, not subject to any act of Congress, the Judiciary or the Executive Branches of government. The Bill of Rights are in fact a list of things the government is forbidden to alter. Yet, ... the Congress, the Courts and the states continue to amend these rights:

Colorado’s new state law that apparently was based on the belief that free speech rights are not unalienable and they sometimes must be restricted is scaring residents who now fear expressing their opinions in public.

WND reported the law, SB200, which was promoted as an “anti-discrimination” plan favoring alternative sexual lifestyles and gender perceptions, has made it a criminal offense to discriminate against someone based on those lifestyles or perceptions.

“This desire to limit the constitutionally guaranteed right to the ‘free exercise of religion’ can be seen in Cathryn Hazouri’s, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, testimony given before the Colorado House Judiciary Committee,” the group said.

“One may practice one’s religion in private; however, once a religious person comes into the public arena, there are limitations in how the expression of their religion impacts others,” she had said.

It is not just the ACLU, nor liberal governors and legislators; much like Canada to the north, it is increasingly becoming the sentiment of the American people that all forms of religious beliefs and practice should be confined to the home and church, and in the latter case even in the pulpit to preach against sins like abortion or homosexuality constitute hate crimes.

You better get used to more and more repressive laws against Christian (they will never dare apply these laws against Islam) beliefs and practices in the public square and as part of the price we will pay is that, your little girl gets to examine the hairy penis of some guy, be he straight or gay, in the same restroom in public facilities, even at school. Isn’t our brave new, politically correct world great?

The First Amendment protection for religious worship is as inviolable and important to our liberty as Free political Speech, a free press or private gun ownership. If you are willing to sacrifice one upon the altar of political correctness, then none of these rights are safe at all.

Tax the churches just like other business ventures and I would be happy to jump to your side on this. Relgion is big business, and should be held to the same standards and receive the same benefits as such. Until they pay their admission fee like everyone else, I say keep ALL religion out of gov policy and dont allow them to have the influence other business ventures are required to pay for via taxes. This includes non-profits. They can function as a regular business as well. Just because they are a corp. doesnt mean they will end up paying anything in taxes anyway. 
File and pay taxes like a corp. Then they can endorse from the pulpit and have their lobby buy the influence of lawmakers just like other industries. At least thats honest and fair.

dragon.  The Presbyterian Church, PCA is not a business.  Period.
I should say, “an ACLU member--communist religion, or atheist may practise their religion at home, but when they step into the public square, they must leave their socialist ideas at home.” See how this could play out?  Conservatives would not and have not done this, but communists have no problem with destroying Churches and outlawing the practise of one’s religion.

Dragon: The framers of the Constitution did not agree with you. Not only was government financing of certain religious activities, absent interference in their affairs, common practice for the first 100 years or more; the Northwest Ordinance, which is the document used for any territory applying for statehood, encouraged the Christian Bible be taught in all public schools.

Art. 3. Religion, morality, and knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged.

Why were schools and the means of public education encouraged of new states? To teach religion and morality which are absolutely necessary for good government to prosper.

“Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.” John Jay the first Supreme Court Justice (for those of you who didn’t know that)

While I am not enamored of chuches having a tax emempt status, solely for spiritual reasons; the Constitution forbade the government from being entangled in the affairs of any particular Christian denomination, while nowhere in that document will you find any prohibition of religion influencing the affairs of state, rather it was strongly encouraged by our Founding Fathers.

Yours is, IMO, a wholly antagonistic reaction to the Christian faith and none of your beliefs can be supported by any examination of the founding documents of this nation.


No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.
