Fred Thompson:  The Next American Idol?

Richard Cohen in today’s Washington Post writes this:

The presidency is where a person can make the most difference.  But the emergence of Thompson shows that a fatigued Republican Party is not interested in making any difference at all--just in hanging on.  What commends Thompson to the presidency--the only thing anyone ever mentions-- is his TV fame.  If that’s all it takes, Thompson can look forward to being more than a president.  He’ll be an American Idol.

Interesting. Read the entire column.

I’ve never watched law and order so does that count?

I’m looking for a conservative candidate that can articulate his principles.  Looks like Freds the one.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

What commends Thompson to the Presidency is his experience in the Senate (he served there longer than, say, Obama has) as well as his stances on the issue and leadership philosophy.

That you on the left are trying to rip him down already is telling.

Richard Cohen is a predictably partisan hack… and a fool besides.

Fred Thompson’s tenure as a US Senator is longer than that of Barack Obama, John Edwards, or Hillary Clinton, a point curiously absent from Cohen’s inconsequential tantrum.

Fred Thompson:  The Next American Idol?

I know who can play Paula Abdul!

A troll is someone who only wants to stir up trouble, not have an honest debate.  Some signs that a poster is a troll:
* Dodges questions from other posters * Refuses to give sources
* When one of its arguments is shown to be false, either ignores the proof or moves the goalposts.  Heh. (From the LGF faq)

Fox News has the video up of Sean Hannity’s interview with Fred Thompson.  Headlines (in no particular order) include:

Invasion of Iraq was the right thing to do.

Libby trial, conviction, and sentence are a travesty.  Pardon him now.

Secure the border.  The 12 million illegals that are here aren’t nearly as much a problem as the next 12 million… and the next.

If Iran gets too close to obtaining nukes, take out their facilities, militarily if necessary.

We are in a truly global war against Islamist terrorism.  We need to recognize that fact and act accordingly.

Our tax code is woefully inefficient, punishing the very things we need to encourage.

No wonder the liberals are afraid of this man.  They ought to be!

Listen to him on every single issue.  He is consistent, articulate, and engaging.  He is conservative and his positions are well reasoned and very clear.

But to Liberals, he is another ignorant know nothing Republican Hack with a powerlust.  Let’s see the charges of imbecile used on Bush stick to Thompson.

It is telling that the left is already trying to cast him as “just an actor” since they can’t very well cast him as a dunce who is running for President because his daddy wants a new boy king.  Gonna be tough to attack his conservative positions that resonate with the American people and stack him up against Edwards, Obama, Clinton, any of them and Thompson is smarter and certainly more engaging as a personality than they are.  Plus he didn’t vote to invade Iraq before claiming that he was duped by Bush’s flawed intelligence (that was mostly gathered by the CLINTON ADMINISTRATION).  The left is already in attack mode and want to paint him as just an “actor”.

You ain’t gonna vote for him anyway, in the primaries or the general, so quite frankly, Puzz, it really doesn’t matter if you agree with the WAPO’s article or if all the Kos Kiddies do.  He resonates on the issues with the American people.
