Fewer People Entering U.S. Illegally, Report Says
Summary:
What happened to the campaign issue of illegal immigration? During the primary debates it was front and center, and now it has seemed to slide off the radar.
Perhaps the recently released study by the Pew Hispanic Center might offer some insight.
According to their report, which was released Thursday, it indicates that fewer people are entering illegally, and there has been no growth in the number of illegal immigrants living here over the last year.
Experts believe the cause of the drop are the loss of low wage jobs, intensified enforcement at the borders and work sites, and anti-immigrant sentiment.
58% of illegals are from Mexico and 22% are from Latin America and the caribbean.
Augusto de la Torre, a chief economist at the World Bank, said slight improvement in Latin American economies, which are doing better than in rich countries, have compelled many to stay at home or move to other countries in their region.
