Election 2008 and the Jihadists

I just had to share this most excellent Balloon Juice post from Tim F which says almost exactly what I think. Since the conclusions drawn are completely opposite to what I read at SA, I knew I had to bring it to your attention.

Read and disagree vehemently but the truth of it is so obvious to me that I sometimes think many of the comments I read here are intended to pull my leg...of course I know they aren’t but it really goes to show how differently people view the world.

So this is more of that self-hatred, right?  “We’re really the ones who created the terrorists?” “We create more terrorists by fighting the terrorists?”

Complete and utter baloney.  Who would al Qaeda rather have in office?  Probably not the guy who supports having boots on the ground in the middle east to fight the Islamic extremists where they live.

The simple truth is that the middle east is the petri dish in which the most noxious strains of Islam fester.  If leave the petri dish alone, we risk that strain spreading here.

I know leftists feel that we can solve everything with more diplomacy and stuff, but we live in the real world not some utopia thought up by people who wish things were otherwise.

Honestly, this line of thinking is insulting.  You act as though we who support the war in Iraq want war for war’s sake.  That couldn’t be further from the truth.  I don’t want my country to have to be at war with the terrorists in the middle east, but I’m at lease capable of recognizing that it’s necessary.

I ask because I find nothing I do agree with.

sitting snug in their Pakistan safe haven

Snug? In a cave, on the run, a $50M bounty on you head. Snug?

Either way we have a wrecked army, no credibility and just the kind of chaos in Iraq that bin Laden couldn’t dream of accomplishing without our help.

PLEASE Mike, Just what the hell do you agree with?

robert108 on February 23, 2008 at 03:13 pm

Mike, you mistake resolve for fear.

That’s a common problem with you spineless liberals. To fight back and defeat the enemy is “fearful”.

In a war, your kind is usually the first to go. Either that, or you’re complicit in evil because you’re too afraid to fight it.

Mike, instead of making your erroneous “obvious” assumptions, why don’t you acquaint yourself with reality. When Democrats win, al Qaeda wins.

It’s hard to deny that Republicans and radical Islamists have a symbiotic relationship that bin Laden would sorely miss.

Truer words were never spoken, Mike. Bush is the best recruiter al Qaeda ever had.

Bin Ladin couldn’t be happier---we’ve taken our eye off the ball in Afghanistan, let the Taliban retake huge swaths of territory, left him alone in Pakistan, and started a colonial war against people who did NOT attack us on 9/11.

Every night, Bin Laden gives thanks to Allah for George W. Bush.

Right.  He does this from the hole in the ground he’s been hiding in since 2002.  He’d do it outside, but he can’t poke his head out lest he be seen and promptly vaporized.

You are so right, Jack.  Osama loves Bush!

Yes, but never in such a meaningless jumble before! Unless you want to redefine the words: “Republican”, “Islamist” and “symbiotic”.

Have you no clue as to what the word “symbiotic” means, Jack? Or does ”hunt them down and kill them” translate into “symbiosis” on your planet?

Actually it was me which said this, Jack:

Hiding successfully, proof. He’s still alive, global terrorism is up, and Bush let him get away.

And here is where I devastate your argument:

1.  He’s alive but neutralized.  He’s little more than a team mascot right now.

2.  Saying that Bush “let” him get away supposes that Bush wanted him to get away.  If you believe this, you’re stupid.

3.  Global terrorism is up...in the middle east.  It’s down everywhere else, meaning that we’ve succeeded in pushing the terrorists back to the region from whence they sprang.

Sez you (or rather, sez Rush and you believe it). I still want his head on a stick. I still want the people who planned and carried out the 9/11 attacks brought to justice. Conservatives apparently don’t.

Saying that Bush “let” him get away supposes that Bush wanted him to get away.

Bush has failed to capture the 9/11 assassins. That is an undeniable fact. That’s what it means to let someone get away. Splitting hairs over what Bush does or does not want is a game for conservatives. Liberals expect RESULTS, and we’re not going to get results from Bush.

Mike,

I find your comment to R108 elusive and distasteful. What makes you think he cannot tell the difference between fact and opinon.

It is this “Tim F.” you seem to admire so much who has trouble with the distinction. What facts are there to support “unresticted police power and rigged trials.” If you have some knowledge of this occuring, please let us know.

It is “Tims” opinion that we “ manhandle civilians badly enough to inflame the muslim world.” And you concur with this rubbish?  Did you forget the riots that ensued when Danish cartoonist had the audacity to characterize their spirtual leader, while at the same time the Islamists are stoning christians for the mere practice of their faith.

“Tim” opines that the terrorist don’t hate America for their freedom, but because we support Israel and the Sauds. Of course he conviently left out the Billons in aid to Indonesia, Malasia and the Palestinians. All muslim countries. Yet you agree with him here.

May I suggest that it is you, not R108, who has trouble in refining fact to obtain opinon. That you are colored because of your ideology into thinking there is any basis behind the mindless scribble of this author.

I find your comment to R108 elusive and distasteful.

It was...we have a bit of a history and he knows exactly what button to push.

It is “Tims” opinion that we “ manhandle civilians badly enough to inflame the muslim world.” And you concur with this rubbish?

Is it American policy? Of course not but has it happened? It has on occasion and America’s image has suffered as a result.

Did you forget the riots that ensued when Danish cartoonist had the audacity to characterize their spirtual leader, while at the same time the Islamists are stoning christians for the mere practice of their faith.

I don’t approve of the riots and I favour freedom of religion.

“Tim” opines that the terrorist don’t hate America for their freedom, but because we support Israel and the Sauds.

The terrorists hate any way of life that does not accord with their own vision. They strike at America because it represents to them the “decadence” and disbelief in what they hold sacred and because America supports an Arab society that they abhor.

May I suggest that it is you, not R108, who has trouble in refining fact to obtain opinon.

I don’t accuse r108 of having trouble refining fact to obtain opinion. FWIW I accuse r108 of substituting his opinion for fact. To r108, “lefties lie. It’s all they have.” is not an opinion but a fact for example.

I share Tim F’s opinion that the Bush Administration’s Middle East policy has worked in favour of the terrorists rather than against it. I don’t think that Americans are devils, I don’t think Bush is the devil, I think that the terrorists are wrong and their acts constitute evil. I don’t think that the jihadists can count on majority support in the Middle East but at the same time I don’t think that the majority in the Middle East welcome western invasions of its territory. I think that most Arabs dislike their governments and are suspicious of the West for supporting them.

These are all opinions based on facts I’ve observed. You can disagree with my opinions based on facts you’ve observed and so what it comes down to is the relative importance we place on different facts. Some facts are clear and indisputable while others are not and some facts aren’t facts at all. Where the ideological prism really comes into play is when we determine what facts to use as support for our opinions.

I appreciate your comments.

Mike: I also apologize for the generalization “Lefties lie; it’s all they have.” I should refine that, I guess.  I have explained it before, but one more time won’t hurt.  I don’t mean that all lefties lie all the time, or I would say that.  The most common lie is that they disguise what they really want, which is a Marxist “dictatorship of the proletariat"(for our own good, of course), but they clothe it in some smarmy rhetoric about “the common good”, or “removing poverty and unhappiness” or similar crap.  Not all lefties are so covert.  Anarchist Vegetarian, for example, is pretty straightforward about his desire to confiscate all our private property and private capital(for our own good, of course), even though he repeats Marxist lies about the reason for doing that.  Hillary and Obama want a fascist takeover of business through taxation and regulation, but use rhetoric of “fairness” and “greed” to cover their real motives.  In addition, “change”, when they preach it, means changing the entire structure of our economy to a managed one, but they don’t quite get around to mentioning that little detail.
For the record, I don’t consider you a lying leftie, Mike.  A little testy, perhaps.

If you don’t know by now, don’t mess with it.
