Edwards to (gasp!) raise taxes!  (I’m shocked! Shocked!)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -

Democratic U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards on Sunday said that he would raise taxes, chiefly on the wealthy, to pay for expanded healthcare coverage under a plan costing $90 billion to $120 billion a year to be unveiled on Monday.

“We’ll have to raise taxes. The only way you can pay for a healthcare plan that cost anywhere from $90 to $120 billion is there has to be a revenue source,” Edwards said on NBC’s Meet the Press news program.

The 2004 vice presidential nominee and former North Carolina senator said his plan would “get rid of George Bush’s tax cuts for people who make over $200,000 a year.”

Any bets as to whether he would get rid of cuts for those between $20K and $200K as well?

No offense to John Pretty Boy Edwards, but Universial Health Care is not a right everyone should be afforded, nor should we be taxed to pay for your pet project to get your sorry act elected.

The buzz word that “only the rich are going to get taxed” is way of saying opps we raised your taxes too.  I am not sure why people think we shoud keep giving stuff up so free loaders can get free shit.

Proof, I edited the link as you can see. A plain link just looks ugly when it scrolls over the static boxes and off the page.

Hope you don’t mind.

Did you hear that Senator Joe Lieberman thinks Congress should consider a tax to fund the U.S. war on terrorism and avoid cutting domestic programs to pay for security spending?
I like Joe, but he’s still a Democrat.  smile

Did you hear that Senator Joe Lieberman thinks Congress should consider a tax to fund the U.S. war on terrorism and avoid cutting domestic programs to pay for security spending?

In my opinion, this is Lieberman’s near last attempt at compromise with the Democrat party over the war.  And they should pay close attention.  If Joe leaves the Dems and starts to caucus with the GOP, even as an independent, the Democrats no longer retain effective control of the Senate.

No one has yet asked the question publicly, but it seems clear that while Lieberman is unwilling to sacrifice Israel to the anti-war Left, the same cannot be said for the majority of Democrats.

That famous Joe Lieberman conscience we heard so much about from Democrats in the 2000 campaign, in an obvious effort to deflect ethics criticism from Gore, is now coming back to haunt those very same Democrats.  And I doubt they are very happy about it.
