day after the 2008 ND deer season
Begin the week with a quick note the 2009 deer gun hunting season opens up on November 6, get that vacation request in 11 months early…not a bad idea. If, and I mean if the North Dakota deer harvest is down a bit, don’t just blame it on the corn. I heard wildlife division chief Randy Kreil on the radio a few weeks ago explaining the pressure of opening day deer hunting and that first weekend. I think the Saturday of opening weekend statistically results in around 25% of our deer taken. But depending on where you hunt there may have been some weather impacting hunters getting to their units the opening weekend. Couple that with reality of some hunters choosing to hunt just opening weekend and not again. This year the 2nd and final weekend of deer hunting weather was much of in favor of the hunter than the deer from the opener. But i’ll be a few months until we can get the numbers crunched.
