Corporate Money Rules

The Bush Administration has trampled on many of our rights while fighting their war on terror, but when it comes to the rights of our corporations it is quite different. The Department of Homeland Security feels that it would be an imposition on chemical plants, who contribute huge sums of money to Republicans, to account for the storage of under 2500 pounds of deadly chlorine, even if the plants were located in populous areas or near elementary schools. Further, the people in Homeland Security who were instrumental in making the rules previously worked for guess who? chemical companies. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/07/opinion/07wed1.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Ok, but what are the chances of under 2,500 pounds of chlorine gas being dangerous once released into the air?

I mean, you’re not making a real convincing argument here.

Davinski,

As amusing as it would be to challenge you to document which rights have been “trampled” by the Bush administration, the subject of your post is the supposedly corrupting influence of money, specifically corporate money, on our politics.  So I’m curious how you balance your obvious indignation with the activities of George Soros or Theresa Heinz Kerry.

Soros, an avowed “progressive” who despises the capitalist system that has made him filthy rich, has donated hundreds of millions, if not half a billion, dollars to far left organizations and causes.  Saint Theresa doesn’t even have the excuse that she earned any of the money she donates through her Tides Foundation.  Her donations too are well into the hundreds of millions, including bailing out her idiot husband’s pathetic presidential campaign four years ago.

My question is simple enough (even for you):  Is it merely donations to Republicans that you abhor?  That would be s pretty narrow-minded and simplistic approach, but then you are a liberal.  Or are you equally willing to castigate those on the left who try to influence public policy with their financial contributions?

Typical leftie BDS! Would you care to enumerate said rights or simply cast aspersions on GWB?
their war?I’m an American, Davinski, and not part of the Bush administration. After 9/11 it became my war, too! What country are you from?

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

And who would you prefer to have making complex decisions about how to regulate deadly chemicals?
Kindergarten teachers? Or professionals knowledgeable in their field?
Davinski: Are you a professional leftist joke or merely a talented amateur?

Proof,

Apparently, Davinski feels that rather than having people in government who know what they’re doing, it is preferable to have an oblivious outsider with no industry specific knowledge or experience directing that industry’s regulation.  Like having a president’s wife dictate the regulatory framework for the one seventh of our nation’s economy that is the healthcare industry.

In the first place, there is no such thing as “corporate money”.  There are corporations that make money, and they compete with other corporations that make money.  They compete with each other for market share.  The truth is that govt has way too much control over business, and so all businessmen have to pay what amounts to “tribute” to the govt. in order to protect their interests.  They are still individual businesses, though.

Leftie political philosophy, from a DU commenter:

It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. RUMOR IS TRUTH. The modern laws of media hype and political warfare have a useful tenet: Repeat ANYTHING or raise false concern over ANYTHING and it is likely to be planted in the conscious/subconscious of many voters.
