Congress Critters Lease Expensive Cars On Your Dime

I’m sure if a member of the GOP had been among these guys, b-b-b-b-bob would have been all over it like a bum on a baloney sandwich!

You may not realize it, but members of the House of Representatives can lease a car and have it paid for by you—the taxpayer. And it’s not just the car, but gas, registration, insurance … the works.

And as CBS 2 HD found out, there’s no limit on how much they can spend.

I added in bold, what CBS left out. However, the politicians are all from New York and New Jersey, so perhaps the assumption is that they’re all Democrats!

Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY 15th) was recently seen getting out of his Cadillac DeVille, which he leases for $774 per month.

Congressman Gregory Meeks (D - NY 6th). was recently seen waiting for Congressman John Conyers to step out of Meeks’ Lexus LS460, which Meeks leases for $998 per month.

Congressman Ed Towns (D-NY 10th) of Brooklyn used to lease a Lincoln for $845 per month, but switched to a 2008 mini-SUV made by Lincoln, the MKX, which costs $715 per month.

Ah! What passes for a fiscally responsible Democrat!

The next time somebody bitches and moans about how broke they are because of the price of gasoline, remember that the taxes on your gasoline are paying for the best (?) politicians money can buy!

I wish the article would at least attempt to explain the loophole so when we want to attack this exploitation we have something that is tangible to attack.
What’s a representatives salary?

I think if I were a congressman, I wouldn’t definitely have a comfortable, possibly luxurious car--it’s their office.  But a 1000$ from a rep is something that could be afforded on their own.

I don’t like the use of other people’s names in your article, especially bob’s.  Proof, you are a respectful blogger, and although this was a very light jest, I think SAB will be better off with out it

Exactly! I don’t begrudge any of them the nicest ride they can afford, but if the argument is that we have to give them the perks to attract a “higher caliber” of representative, then, Charlie Rangel is a prima facie argument that it’s not working!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

dirl126,

“blackwater"bob should be disparaged by all and at every opportunity.  He and his fellow travelers here make Nancy Reid and Hairy Pelosi look like super geniuses.

The names of other bloggers at SAB should not be used in an original post, unless in a complimentary fashion.

Had I a filter to deposit everything that “b"b, Eunichized, littledog, d, etc. where it so ripely belongs, I would utilized it.  Lacking that tool, I shall mock them at every opportunity.

"blackwater"boob,

Explain to us again how “blackwater fever” [late stage falciparum malaria] is named after Blackwater Worldwide?

It’s one thing to make a prediction and be proved wrong by the outcome (as I was, and I make no bones about it), it’s another thing entirely to fail to check a story that sounds too good (as in too close to your prejudices, “blackwater"boob) and which is easily disproved by a cursory google search.

But that is a hallmark of the fascist left, is it not; the truth of a thing being dependent entirely upon its usefulness to the cause or goal.

I don’t like the use of other people’s names in your article,

Well, first, I took a little “artistic license”. There is no one here who blogs under the name of “b-b-b-b-bob”.
Second, if my caricature resembles any person living or dead from the neck up, it could be purely coincidental! Or, perhaps the comment was directly on target?
Third, (good things come in threes!) the caricature of a troll that regularly posts a plethora of petty, picayunish, and purely partisan potshots at Republican politicians (Every dogcatcher and First Selectman who ever had an “R” after his name!), I’m torn between ignoring, thus not feeding it, and responding to its endless distortions and half truths.
*Sigh* What’s a blogger to do?
