Col. “Bud” Day - John McCain’s Roomie at the Hanoi Hilton

Like John McCain, Col. George E. “Bud” Day spent over 5 yrs in Vietnamese POW camps. Day and John McCain were cell-mates for about 2 and a half years. Day is a legendary military hero with more medals and ribbons than anyone since General Douglas MacArthur.

Unlike our treatment of POWs at Gitmo, where copies of the Koran are readily available, there were no Bibles at the Hanoi Hilton. The only Scripture brought in was in the minds of the POWs themselves. McCain, apparently, had quite a bit of Scripture memorized.

Day said he asked McCain if he would be one of his preachers.

“He said sure. He had a great handle on the Episcopalian liturgy, he could just repeat it verbatim,” he said.

But repeating what he went through during his incarceration is something McCain almost never does as a presidential candidate. Day said he thinks he should.

So, just for comparison, we have a candidate who paid attention to what was said in his church, to the point that he could repeat its liturgy verbatim, versus a guy who couldn’t remember when his pastor said “God Damn America”? Yeah. Right!

That is an excellent point.

The Republicans should produce a campaign video with excerpts of Colonel Day, The “reverend” Wright, while showing pictures of McCain and Obama as their
their past associates, mentors, and heroes speak. I think it would be powerful imagery.

Speaking as a life long Episcopalean, I know why Mccain may have remembered parts of the communion serive: it is exactly the same every Sunday! Like myself, he probably learned it mostly in his sleep at those early services.

I am far less concerned about what McCain did in his military carer than what he did after.  In this second life he dumped his disabled wife for a USC cheerleader trophy wife.  His new hottie was from a very wealthy republican family, which helped his political career by letting him get cozy with the corrupt bankers of the world (remember he was one of the Keating 5?). At least he did not dump his trophy wife when she turned out to be hooked on vicodin.

Speaking as a life long Episcopalean (sic)

Funny! You’d think after being one for life, you’d know how to spell it!

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

Bruce:

It is exactly the same every Sunday.

Hah!

Obviously, you haven’t been a life-long Episcopalian for more than 30 years.  The advent of the ‘revised’ Book of Common Prayer gutted most of the core principles of the nation’s founding church.

Were I you, I would be far more concerned about what Presiding Bishopress Schorry and her minions are doing to your church than whether McCain married a trophy-wife.

"Here lies, in honored glory, an American soldier, known but to God.”

The stakes are high. Whether the issue is the economy, or energy, or the federal courts or national security, the right answers are coming not from the Democrats, but from the Republicans. The surge of operations that began a year ago is succeeding. The only way to lose this fight is to quit. Richard M. Cheney, Vice President, 30 May, 2008

After what they have done in the acceptance of homosexuals contrary to scripture, I wonder if the the Episcopalians can call themselves Christians any more.

Please cite a source in the New Testament where Jesus says that homosexuals should not be accepted.
