Christian Coalition is only a right-leaning hit squad

AP -

The Reverend elected to take over as president of the Christian Coalition of America said he will not assume the role because of differences in philosophy.

The Rev. Joel Hunter, of Longwood’s Northland, A Church Distributed, said Wednesday that the national group would not let him expand the organization’s agenda beyond opposing abortion and gay marriage.

This is the latest setback for the group founded in 1989 by religious broadcaster the Rev. Pat Robertson. Four states - Georgia, Alabama, Iowa and Ohio - have decided to split from the group over concerns its changing direction on issues like the minimum wage, the environment and Internet law instead of core issues like abortion and same-sex marriage.

“These are issues that Jesus would want us to care about,” Hunter said.

He resigned Tuesday during an organization board meeting. Hunter said he was not asked to leave.

“They pretty much said, ‘These issues are fine, but they’re not our issues, that’s not our base,’” Hunter said.

A statement issued by the coalition said Hunter resigned because of “differences in philosophy and vision.” The board accepted his decision “unanimously,” it states.

The organization, headed by President Roberta Combs, claims a mailing list of 2.5 million.

So let me get this straight, the Christian Coalition will not argue for the same things that Jesus did in the Bible including poverty and the environment. Apparently, this group isn’t really concerned about all the teachings of Christ. Only those things that will not hurt the Republican Party in the eyes of Christians, teachings like abortion and gay marriage. I want to say Thank You to the Christian Coalition, you have shown me that you are not really religious. You are only a right-leaning hit squad that uses religion as a cover.

I always have to laugh at people who try to interpret Jesus’ teachings in the bible as support for the minimum wage and environmental policy.

It’s always good to get the antiChristian bigot’s view of things.

Matthew 25:35 :

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’

Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?  When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?’

And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’

A right leaning hit squad?

You mean like the left’s ACLU? Or CAIR? Or Moveon.org? Or the crowd of morons who surround and support Jimmy Carter? Or Michael Moore’s slobbering pack of Hollywood clowns? The list goes on and on. If you’re looking for slanted hit squads just take a look at the army of them fielded by the left.

By the way.....good post An. and in that vein:

After Katrina, when this area was absolutely devastated, guess who were here almost immediately with food, water, money, shelter, and medical aid for the hundreds of thousands of people in this area who lost everything?

Was it, let’s see...aetheists? Nope. Didn’t see one single group of aetheists working twenty hours a day to help.

Was it....Scientologists? Nope. Didn’t see a single one.

Was it Michael Moore and his Hollywood cronies? You honestly don’t think Miss Piggy’s gonna get his pudgy paws dirty, do you. Best to opinionate from afar, you know.

No...it was the Baptists and the Catholic church and the Mormon church and Seventh Day Adventists and Lutherans and the list goes on and on.

I was here through it all. I saw it. And Christianity and all it’s teachings are a bad thing...why?

exactly!  Christianity, atleast as I understand it, leaves it up to the individual to take the initiative in helping other. It doesn’t mandate our government to do so. \

..same thing hold for interpreting the Bible, and here is where I have a HUGE problem many many Christian Fundamentalists.

..i.e. ..Chistitianity, atleas as I understand it, doesn’t dictate that Paul must sacked in order to pay Peter, ..though it does encourage Paul to help Peter.

AN,

If you read very carefully, you will notice that Matthew 25 says absolutely nothing about using the government to take by force and then have the government give food to the hungry, drink to the thirsty, clothing to the naked, etc.  As I read the passage, Jesus is commanding that those who are his followers do these things, not sit back and pay the government to do them.

I am always saddened, and amused, when those who are not Christians assume for themselves the noxious leftwing moral superiority to tell Christians what exactly being Christian is all about, and what their responsibilities as believers ought to be.

No thanks!

Bat: I too find it amusing that lefties, especially the antiChristian bigots, try to lecture on Christianity.  Likewise when they quote the President or Rush about conservatism, as if they have any real idea of what it’s all about.  Very funny!

Well said, Bat. Someone should remind those people of the old addage: Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it. They prove it over and over again.
