Despite pleas from residents gathered at a town hall meeting Tuesday night, Winnetka officials voted to repeal a 20-year ban on handguns.
A Supreme Court ruling in June declared that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of individual Americans to keep and bear arms.
In September, three Winnetka residents and the National Rifle Association sued the village, stating that the local ban violated their rights protected by the Constitution.
In America today, everyone needs a gun in his home and on his person. We must protect our families and our interests from the criminal element.

They promised to repeal it after Heller, then refused to do so until the NRA began legal action.

Amazing how people living right in the middle of the proving grounds that banning guns does not take them out of the hands of the criminals are still fighting to prevent innocent citizens from protecting themselves.
